De Ierse singer-songwriter Wallis Bird en het Duitse, met de ECHO Klassik bekroonde ensemble Spark zetten in Visions of Venus duizend jaar vrouwelijke muziekkunst in de schijnwerpers. Het resultaat is een fascinerende, genre-overstijgende mix van pop, jazz en klassieke muziek.
Middeleeuwse melodieën van mystica en componiste Hildegard von Bingen smelten samen met een indiepop van Björk. Muziek van de begin-zeventiende-eeuwse componiste, zangeres en dichteres Francesca Caccini wordt afgewisseld met hits van Kate Bush en Tori Amos. Tijdloze melodieën van iconen als Joni Mitchell, Carole King en Janis Joplin worden becommentarieerd door impressionistische soundscapes van de twintigste-eeuwse Franse componiste Germaine Tailleferre. En ook de betoverende minimale structuren van de hedendaagse Australische componiste Elena Kats-Chernin krijgen een plek. Van middeleeuwse hymnen tot hedendaagse popsongs, Visions of Venus viert de creativiteit en veerkracht van vrouwen door de eeuwen heen.

Medieval melodies by mystic and composer Hildegard von Bingen merge with indie pop by Björk. Music by early-seventeenth-century composer, singer and poet Francesca Caccini is interspersed with hits by Kate Bush and Tori Amos. Timeless melodies by icons such as Joni Mitchell, Carole King and Janis Joplin are commented on by impressionistic soundscapes by twentieth-century French composer Germaine Tailleferre. And the mesmerizing minimal structures of contemporary Australian composer Elena Kats-Chernin are also given a place. From medieval hymns to contemporary pop songs, Visions of Venus celebrates the creativity and resilience of women throughout the ages.
