Gemma Ray in English

Gemma Ray is an outsider in the pop noir genre, with a music style that balances somewhere in between 60s rock and roll, folk and blues. With this she already made a name for herself in the British music magazines and the world famous Top of the Pops. And when Jimmy Page is one of your biggest fans, you are doing pretty well as a performer. The Berlin-based singer is also known in the Dutch live circuit, where she toured with artists such as Low and Seasick Steve. Gemma Ray always gives a unique twist to her shows: once she played her guitar with a kitchen knife.

In 2014 Gemma Ray’s long awaited second album was released, titled ‘Milk For Your Mothers’. She produced this album herself and she confirmed her talent for writing orchestral cinematic music. This unique and unpredictable artist is coming to De Spieghel April 24th.

In 2014 verscheen haar tweede album getiteld ‘Milk For Your Motors’.

Website Gemma Ray

“Gemma Ray should be a household name, an artist whose blues-rich voice is on a public pedestal beside those of Polly Jean and Amy Jade.”

★★★★★ BBC music (Mike Diver)

“Ray’s arrangements are both unpredictable and inspired, and along with her vivid lyrics give us a series of remarkable musical tableaux.”

★★★★★ Albumrecensie MOJO (Mike Barnes)

Milk For Your Motors overtuigt op bijna alle fronten”

★★★★ Albumrecensie Festivalinfo (Jelle Burger)

“Her infectious blend of classic girl group pop, off the wall exotica, left field rock ‘n’ roll and vivid torch songs should be dominating the airwaves.”

★★★★ Louderthanwar.com (Ian Johnston)
