De Oosterpoort en Venice, dat is als twee handen op een buik. Viermaal wist de band De Oosterpoort te vullen met een warmte, die de temperaturen van hun thuisbasis Californië oversteeg. Donderdag 13 juni komen de mannen van de Lennon-familie opnieuw naar Groningen en dat is altijd weer goed nieuws voor hun enorme schare fans en alle andere liefhebbers van de Californian sound à la Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young. Doorbraak in Nederland
De band werd opgericht in 1977 en vernoemd naar het beroemde strand van Los Angeles, Venice Beach. Twintig jaar later sloot Nederland de groep in de armen na de indrukwekkende ‘2 Meter Sessie’ bij Jan Douwe Kroeske. Al snel was een gouden plaat en een Edison Music Award voor Beste Internationale Artiest van hun. En nog steeds is Venice enorm populair. Dat de liefde wederzijds is, bleek in 2006, toen Michael, Mark, Kipp en Pat een album naar onze hoofdstad vernoemden.

Jacaranda Street
Onlangs heeft Venice het nieuwe album Jacaranda Street uitgebracht. Dat dit album muzikaal en emotioneel zo goed zou uitpakken hadden de mannen niet verwacht. Het album is opgenomen in de woonkamer van Mark. Een klein drumstel, gitaren, toetsenborden en een paar microfoons waren alle benodigde ingrediënten. Met de ramen open voor de nodige zomerse bries begonnen de mannen te schrijven en direct daarna werden de nummers opgenomen. Het resultaat is een album zo puur dat je de wind uit Californië op de achtergrond hoort ruisen.

Breakthrough in the Netherlands
The band was founded in 1977 and named after Los Angeles’s famous Venice Beach. Twenty years ago the Netherlands embraced the group following an impressive performance on Jan Douwe Kroeske’s musical radio and television programme ‘2 Meter Sessies’. Shortly after, they were awarded with a Gold Record and an Edison Music Award for Best International Artist. And Venice still is highly popular. That the love is mutual became clear in 2006, when Michael, Mark, Kipp and Patt named an album after our capital.
Jacaranda Street
Venice has recently released the new album Jacaranda Street. The men had not expected the album to turn out as well musically and emotionally as it did. It was recorded in Mark’s living room. A small set of drums, guitars, keyboards, and a few microphones were the only ingredients required. With the windows open for a pleasant summery breeze, the men started writing and recorded the songs immediately after. This resulted in an album so pure you can hear the Californian wind rustling in the background.
