Met SYML brengt de Amerikaanse singer-songwriter Brian Fennell indiepop terug naar de essentie. Onder een naam die ‘simpel’ betekent in het Welsh, weeft hij minimalistische synths en piano samen tot aangrijpende composities. Het grote publiek sloot hem massaal in de armen na zijn wereldwijde doorbraak met zijn megahit Where’s My Love, maar Fennell bleef zichzelf uitdagen.
In 2023 verscheen zijn tweede album, The Day My Father Died, deze plaat bevat samenwerkingen met Charlotte Lawrence, Guy Garvey (Elbow) en Nickel Creek. Ook werkte hij samen met Lana Del Ray (Het nummer Paris, Texas, dat later weer prachtig gecoverd werd door S10!). SYML staat bekend om zijn samenwerkingen in verschillende genres, de combinatie met het Metropole Orkest is dan ook een logische samenwerking, die zijn muziek extra verdieping en verrijking geeft. Het programma wordt een combinatie van zijn allergrootste hits en nieuw werk van zijn laatste album Nobody Lives Here, zijn meest heldere en scherpe werk tot nu toe. Met meer dan vier miljard streams kijkt de multi-platina artiest rechtstreeks naar verdriet, verlies, sterfelijkheid en het verstrijken van de tijd, onwankelbaar en harmonieus.
