British singer-songwriter with a focus on Folk
The music world keeps getting louder, so perhaps whispering is now the most radical thing you can do. British singer-songwriter Roo Panes has been doing just that for over a decade. Armed with a 12-string guitar, a voice as warm as a cup of tea, and songs about love, growth and faith.
He was once the face of a Burberry campaign, but Panes turned out to prefer standing behind his guitar rather than in front of the camera. Since his breakthrough album Paperweights, he has been building a body of work rooted in folk, with influences from indie and classical music. Think the melancholy of Nick Drake, the warmth of Ben Howard (whose producer Chris Bond has also worked with Panes) and the understated precision of José González.
That his quiet approach can also fill large venues was proven by a sold-out show at the Barbican Centre and performances at festivals including Glastonbury. His songs bridge the gap between the everyday and the eternal, making a church the perfect and most intimate setting to experience his music.
