Gewapend met zijn akoestische gitaar en zijn unieke stem steekt de Ierse singer-songwriter Barry Moore, beter bekend als Luka Bloom, ieder publiek in zijn achterzak. De combinatie van het intrigerende gitaargeluid en de interessante songkeuze staat al meer dan twintig jaar garant voor grootse concertavonden. In februari 1990 bracht Bloom Riverside uit, hét album waarmee alles begon. De 30ste verjaardag van dit album kan hij niet onopgemerkt aan ons voorbij laten gaan en dus komt Bloom op 6 november naar de Nieuwe Kerk in Groningen!

Intieme setting
De 63-jarige Ier heeft veel mooie herinneringen aan Nederland. Zo benoemde hij de eerste keer dat een gevuld TivoliVredenburg Fertile Rock uit volle borst meezong, hij in 1999 per fiets het Pinkpop podium op kwam en de keer dat hij I Need Love zong met Michael Franti op Crossing Borders Festival. Vandaag de dag verkiest Bloom de meer intieme shows boven de grote festivals. Een locatie als de Nieuwe Kerk leent zich hier perfect voor.

”1989. What a big year this was. The Wall came down in Berlin, and the world felt like a flower in bloom. I was in Los Angeles in November 1989, completing the final mixes for my record Riverside. Three months later, in February 1990, the record came out. I was getting calls in New York, telling me to come to the Lowlands quickly, because Riverside was getting some serious attention in Belgium and in Holland. And so it began. Now, 30 years later, what a joy to remember, and to celebrate this record. Armed with his acoustic guitar and unique voice, the Irish singer-songwriter Barry Moore, more commonly known as Luka Bloom, wins over every audience. The combination of the intriguing guitar sound and interesting choice of songs has been ensuring great concert shows for more than twenty years. Bloom released Riverside in February 1990: the album it all started with. Its 30th anniversary should therefore not go by unnoticed, so Bloom will come to the Nieuwe Kerk in Groningen on Tuesday 14 April!
Intimate setting
The 63-year-old Irishman has fond memories of the Netherlands. He for example reminisced the first time a sold-out TivoliVredenburg sang along to Fertile Rock at the top of its voice, cycling onto the Pinkpop stage in 1999, and singing I Need Love together with Michael Franti at the Crossing Borders Festival. Nowadays Bloom prefers the more intimate shows over major festivals, making the Nieuwe Kerk the perfect location.
