Het eigenzinnige Noordpool Orkest is specialist in 21e-eeuwse muziek en zoekt de grenzen op van genres als pop, dance, jazz, filmmuziek en klassiek. Daarnaast is het ensemble een broedplaats voor nieuw werk.
Met dit nieuwjaarsconcert luidt het Noordpool Orkest een gloednieuwe traditie in. Geen ijskoude nieuwjaarsduik, maar een frisse blik vooruit, met muziek van nu. Want een nieuw jaar vraagt om nieuwe, frisse klanken. Met maar liefst 42 musici speelt het orkest speciaal voor deze avond geschreven composities, gemaakt in samenwerking met jonge makers, opleidingen en culturele partners uit de regio. Aan het programma is een compositiewedstrijd verbonden waarin jonge componisten hun nieuwste werk laten horen. Vier samen een eigentijdse start van het jaar, want the future is now!

With this New Year’s concert, the Noordpool Orchestra ushers in a brand-new tradition. Not an ice-cold New Year’s dip, but a fresh look ahead, with music of today. For a new year calls for new, fresh sounds. With no fewer than 42 musicians, the orchestra will perform compositions written especially for this evening, created in collaboration with young makers, educational institutions, and cultural partners from the region. A composition competition is linked to the program, in which young composers present their latest work. Celebrate a contemporary start to the year together, because the future is now!
