Homebase presents: Pimp My Ride host with his legendary West Coast hip-hop
Al meer dan 10 jaar brengt Homebase de beste hiphopshows naar Groningen en nu komt het succesvolle hiphopevent met hun grootste show tot nog toe: XZIBIT. Op 30 juni brengt Mr. X to the Z samen met zijn band de klassieke sound van de West Coast naar De Oosterpoort.
XZIBIT is een Amerikaanse rapper die al sinds de jaren 90 een van de aanvoerders van West Coast hiphop is. Met zijn hits als X, Paparazzi en Get Your Walk On maakte hij grote indruk en zijn samenwerkingen met Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg en Eminem staan diep in het geheugen gegrift van een ieder met een hart voor de West Coast. Naast zijn muzikale carrière maakte XZIBIT furore als acteur en presentator van het iconische MTV-programma Pimp My Ride. De lovende reacties op zijn recente single Play This At My Funeral (van het aankomende album Kingmaker dat op 28 maart verschijnt) laten zien dat XZIBIT nog steeds on top of his game is, en dat komt hij deze zomer in Groningen laten zien.
De avond zal aan elkaar gedraaid worden door Gronings trots en vast onderdeel van Homebase: Deejay Irie. Hij is een van de meest gerespecteerde turntablists van Nederland, wereldwijd bekend om zijn skills. Zo won hij in 2002 de Dutch DMC Championship (een titel die hij 5 jaar prolongeerde), werd hij de runner-up van de 2005 DMC World Championships, en werd hij in 2015 gekroond tot ‘s werelds eerste Visual DJ World Champion ooit. Irie toerde over de hele wereld en trad op met grote namen als The Gaslamp Killer, Q-Bert en KRS-One.
For over 10 years, Homebase has been bringing the best hip-hop shows to Groningen, and now the successful hip-hop event returns with their biggest show yet: XZIBIT. On June 30th, Mr. X to the Z, together with his band, will bring the classic West Coast sound to De Oosterpoort.
XZIBIT is an American rapper who has been one of the leading figures in West Coast hip-hop since the ’90s. With hits like X, Paparazzi, and Get Your Walk On, he made a huge impression, and his collaborations with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Nate Dogg, and Eminem are deeply etched in the memory of anyone with a heart for the West Coast. Besides his music career, XZIBIT made a name for himself as an actor and host of the iconic MTV show Pimp My Ride. The rave reviews for his recent single Play This At My Funeral (from the upcoming album Kingmaker, releasing on March 28th) show that XZIBIT is still on top of his game—and he’s coming to Groningen this summer to prove it.
The evening will be spun together by Groningen’s pride and a regular Homebase fixture: Deejay Irie. He is one of the most respected turntablists in the Netherlands and internationally known for his skills. In 2002, he won the Dutch DMC Championship (a title he held for five consecutive years), was runner-up at the 2005 DMC World Championships, and in 2015 was crowned the world’s first ever Visual DJ World Champion.
