Sheila Escovedo brak in de jaren ’80 door met haar debuutalbum The Glamorous Life en werkte in de jaren daarna samen met grote namen als Prince, Marvin Gaye, Herbie Hancock, Beyoncé en Ringo Starr. Met Prince ontwikkelde ze een langdurige creatieve samenwerking, onder andere als drummer in zijn band én als zangeres. Naast haar werk als muzikant is Sheila E. ook actief als componist, producer en bandleider.
In Groningen speelt ze werk van haar nieuwste album Hella FonkE, samen met hoogtepunten uit haar indrukwekkende catalogus. Sheila Escovedo broke thru in the 1980s with her debut album The Glamorous Life and collaborated with big names like Prince, Marvin Gaye, Herbie Hancock, Beyoncé, and Ringo Starr in the years that followed. She developed a long-lasting creative collaboration with Prince, including as a drummer in his band and as the singer of the song “Erotic City.” In addition to her work as a musician, Sheila E. is also active as a composer, producer, and bandleader.
