Dat Dylan LeBlanc zou uitgroeien tot een knettergoeie singer-songwriter stond in de sterren geschreven. Zijn vader James LeBlanc was een van de vaste sessiemuzikanten bij de bekende Muscle Shoals Studios, waar artiesten als The Staple Singers, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Otis Redding en Wilson Pickett hun muziek opnamen. In dezelfde studio nam Dylan ook zijn uit 2016 stammende doorbraakalbum Cautionary Tale op, dat vol staat met ingetogen en fraai gezongen sixties folk, soul, altcountry en West Coast pop.
In 2010 levert LeBlanc op negentienjarige leeftijd een ijzersterk debuut af met Pauper Fields. Niet lang daarna zinkt hij echter weg in een duistere periode vol zelfhaat en drank. Met het eerder genoemde Cautionary Tale maakt hij een glorieuze comeback, met opvolger Renegade plaatst hij zich in 2019 definitief in het rijtje van meest getalenteerde liedjesschrijvers van zijn generatie. Het album tekent ook een koerswijziging. De dromerige, sfeervolle stijl die LeBlanc op eerdere releases had geperfectioneerd, krijgt een flink shot adrenaline, met als resultaat een heerlijke plaat vol radio- en hitlijstvriendelijke, Amerikaanse jaren 70-pop.
Het meest recente wapenfeit van LeBlanc is zijn nieuwste plaat Coyote, een dier waar LeBlanc zich, zoals hij zelf zegt, altijd in heeft herkend. Net als dat dier is hij iemand die zwerft en weet wanneer hij op zijn instinct moet vertrouwen, muzikaal en anderszins.

His father, James LeBlanc, was one of the regular session musicians at the famous Muscle Shoals Studios, where artists such as The Staple Singers, Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Otis Redding, and Wilson Pickett recorded their music. Dylan also recorded his 2016 breakthrough album, Cautionary Tale, in the same studio, which is full of understated and beautifully sung sixties folk, soul, alt-country, and West Coast pop.
In 2010, at the age of nineteen, LeBlanc delivered a rock-solid debut with Pauper Fields. Not long after, however, he sank into a dark period filled with self-loathing and alcohol. With the aforementioned Cautionary Tale, he made a glorious comeback, and with its successor Renegade in 2019, he definitively placed himself in the ranks of the most talented songwriters of his generation. The album also marks a change of direction. The dreamy, atmospheric style that LeBlanc had perfected on earlier releases gets a hefty shot of adrenaline, resulting in a delightful record full of radio- and chart-friendly American 70s pop.
LeBlanc’s most recent achievement is his latest album, Coyote, an animal that LeBlanc has, as he himself says, always identified with. Just like that animal, he is a wanderer who knows when to trust his instincts, musically and otherwise.
