Vurige virtuositeit van Vivaldi en Händel
Zoals de naam van dit wereldberoemde orkest al aangeeft heeft het zijn roots in Venetië, net als Vivaldi. Onder aanvoering van oprichter Andrea Marcon heeft het ensemble zich opgewerkt tot een van de belangrijkste Vivaldi-vertolkers. Tijdens dit concert hoor je diens vurige virtuositeit in enkele van zijn instrumentale werken, naast prachtige aria’s, vertolkt door de Russische stersopraan Julia Lezhneva, een gevierde naam bij ‘s werelds grootste operahuizen en concertzalen. Ook de muziek van enkele belangrijke navolgers van Vivaldi komt aan bod, zoals Händel, Geminiani en de vanuit het hof van Frederik de Grote opererende Carl Heinrich Graun, wiens zelden uitgevoerde opera’s onvermoede juweeltjes bevatten.
Andrea Marcon
De Italiaanse dirigent, organist en klavecinist Andrea Marcon – geboren en getogen in Treviso – maakte de afgelopen twaalf jaar furore in de NTR ZaterdagMatinee, vast onderdeel van de programmering van Het Concertgebouw, waar hij menig Vivaldi-opera dirigeerde. In 2021 ontving hij De Händelprijs van de Duitse stad Halle voor zijn toewijding aan de muziek van Händel. Eerdere winnaars waren onder anderen Cecilia Bartoli en Philippe Jaroussky.

The fiery virtuosity of Vivaldi and Händel
As the name suggests, this world-famous orchestra has its roots in Venice, just like Vivaldi. Under the leadership of founder Andrea Macon, the ensemble has grown into one of the most important Vivaldi performers. During this concert you will hear the fiery virtuosity of some of his instrumental works, alongside beautiful arias performed by Russian star soprano Julia Lezhneva – a celebrated name among the world’s greatest opera houses and concert halls. The music of two important imitators of Vivaldi will also be performed: ‘global citizen’ Händel and Carl Heinrich Graun, who operated from the court of Frederick the Great and whose rarely performed operas contain unexpected gems.
Andrea Macon
Over the past twelve years, the Italian conductor, organist and harpsichordist Andrea Macon has been quite the rage in the NTR Saturday Matinee, an integral part of the Concertgebouw’s programming, where he has conducted many Vivaldi operas. In 2021 he was awarded The Händel Prize from the German city of Halle for his dedication to Händel’s music. Previous winners have included Cecilia Bartoli and Philippe Jaroussky.
