Double bill met de kopstukken van de Schotse muziek
Het Nederlandse publiek dichter bij de muzikale tradities van Schotland brengen, dat is het doel van CEÒLAS Scottish Music Nights. Na Finland, Noorwegen, Denemarken en Duitsland doet de tour nu Groningen aan. Twee van de meest befaamde Schotse bands, The Langan Band en FARA staan vanavond op het programma.
The Langan Band
Het trio dat de avond zal openen is The Langan Band, bestaande uit John Langan (zang, gitaar en percussie), Alastair Caplin (zang en viool) en Dave Tunstall (zang en contrabas). Met hun muziek wil de groep bestaande genres doorbreken. Ze presenteren daarom een mengeling van traditionele Schotse folk, Oost-Europese zigeunerswing en traditionele jazz. Dat de muziek van de band aanslaat werd bevestigd toen ze de prestigieuze Danny Kyle Award wonnen op het Celtic Connections Festival.
FARA
Het Schotse kwartet FARA heeft sinds hun optreden op het Orkney Folk Festival in 2014 hun plek aan de top van de Schotse folk-scene meer dan verdiend. De groep heeft een mix van betoverende zang, ingewikkeld verweven fiddle-harmonieën en energieke afsluiters, waarmee ze genomineerd werden voor Live Act of the Year bij de Scots Trads Music Awards. In 2022 presenteerden ze hun langverwachte nieuwe album: Energy Islands, als ode aan de revolutionaire rol van hun thuisbasis Orkney op het gebied van duurzame energie. Het album werd goed ontvangen en kwam binnen op nummer tien in de UK Folk Charts. De groep bestaat uit violisten en vocalisten Jeana Leslie, Catriona Price en Kristan Harvey en Highland-pianist Rory Matheson.
Bringing the Dutch audience closer to the musical traditions of Scotland is the goal of CEÒLAS Scottish Music Nights. The tour spans several countries such as Finland, Norway, Denmark, Germany, and the Netherlands, and now arrives in Groningen. The Langan Band
The trio that will open the evening consists of John Langan (vocals, guitar, and percussion), Alastair Caplin (vocals and violin), and Dave Tunstall (vocals and double bass), collectively known as The Langan Band. With their music, the group aims to break through existing genres, offering a blend of traditional Scottish folk, Eastern European gypsy swing, progressive jazz, and American old-time music. The band’s appeal was confirmed when they won the prestigious Danny Kyle Award at the Celtic Connections Festival.
FARA
The Scottish quartet FARA has more than earned their place at the top of the Scottish folk scene since their performance at the Orkney Folk Festival in 2014. The group offers a mix of enchanting vocals, intricately woven fiddle harmonies, and energetic finales, earning them a nomination for Live Act of the Year at the Scots Trad Music Awards. In 2022, they presented their long-awaited new album Energy Islands as an ode to the revolutionary role of their home base, Orkney, in the field of sustainable energy. The album was well-received, reaching number ten on the UK Folk Charts. The group consists of violinists and vocalists Jeana Leslie, Catriona Price, and Kristan Harvey, along with Highland pianist Rory Matheson.
