The Göteborg Opera Dance Company nodigde twee grootmeesters van de hedendaagse dans uit om een choreografie voor het dansgezelschap te maken. Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui en Saburo Teshigawara zorgden wederom een staaltje hogeschool moderne dans, waar in Zweden lang over nagesproken is. “Een universum van wonderschone poëzie”, schreef de Svenska Dagbladet, terwijl Göteborgs Posten de voorstelling betitelde als “Adembenemend en ontroerend, gedanst door een fenomenaal dansgezelschap van wereldklasse.”

Het programma ‘Spirit’ opent met ‘Noetic’ van Cherkaoui. In deze choreografie legt hij de noodzaak van de mens onder de loep om alles tot detail te structureren, terwijl diezelfde mens tegelijkertijd graag wil ontsnappen aan de regels. Uitgangspunt van ‘Metamorphosis’ van de Japanse duizendpoot Teshigawara (choreograaf, beeldend kunstenaar, dichter en visual artist) is dat tijdens ons leven altijd alles in beweging is. Moet zijn zelfs, want stoppen met bewegen is als sterven. Op muziek van Messiaen en Ravel zorgen de dansers op het podium voor een constante stroom oogstrelende deining.

The Göteborg Opera Dance Company invited two grand masters of contemporary dance to create a choreography for the dance company. Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Saburo Teshigawara once again created a piece of high-class modern dance, which was talked about for ages in Sweden. “A universe of wonderful poetry”, the Svenska Dagbladet wrote, whilst Göteborgs Posten titled the show as “Breathtaking and touching, danced by a world class phenomenal dance company.”
The program ‘Spirit’ opens with ‘Noetic’ by Cherkaoui. In this choreography he studies the need of man to structure everything in every detail, while at the same time that same man wants to escape every rule. The starting point of ‘Metamorphosis’ by the Japanese centipede Teshigawara (choreographer, visual artist, poet and visual artist) is that during our life everything is moving. It has to be even because stopping to move is like dying. On music by Messiaen and Ravel the dancers on stage create a constant wave of stunning movement.
