Vrijwel iedereen kent Cirque du Soleil. Dat het moderne circus niet alleen maar een demonstratie is van lenige kunsten en handige trucs, is dus geen nieuws. Neem bijvoorbeeld het ‘nouveau cirque’ van 7 Fingers, een spectaculaire mix van theater, moderne dans, adembenemende acrobatiek, clownerie, slapstick en poëzie, overgoten met een passende soundtrack. In ‘Sequence 8’ vormen menselijke relaties de rode draad. De acht performers laten vele aspecten daarvan aan bod komen: kameraadschap, competitie, rivaliteit en vooral samen lol trappen. Na het fantastische ‘PSY’, waarmee de Canadezen een paar jaar geleden jong en oud in vervoering brachten, komen ze nu terug naar Nederland met deze nieuwe show. “Magical! Circus poetry of the finest kind
The modern circus is no longer merely a demonstration of acrobatic stunts, limber arts and useful tricks. For years Cirque de Soleil has been a good example of that. ‘Le nouveau cirque’, which includes 7 Fingers, is theatre, dance, music and poetry. The group developed a unique theatre language, a choreographic circus at a human scale. In this pure high-level dance 7 Fingers incorporates seamlessly circus techniques like Russian bar, Chinese pole, juggling and tumbling.
Séquence 8 is about human relations: camaraderie, competition, rivalry and…having some fun together. The Boston Globe found it to be “A hell of a show”.
The Patinoire solo is an intimate and touching portrait of an eccentric. In his cluttered attic room Patrick Léonard mixes clowning with absurd balancing acts. Instead of unapproachable perfection Léonard shows us the beauty of vulnerability.
