De met Oscars en andere prijzen overladen film Amadeus van regisseur Miloš Forman over de laatste levensjaren van Mozart is een van de grote bioscoopsuccessen van de jaren tachtig. Op de historische correctheid van het script valt weliswaar het nodige af te dingen, maar de wijze waarop alles wordt neergezet is subliem.
Deze film met livemuziek is een buitenkans voor film- én muziekliefhebbers.
In de film blikt de oude hofcomponist Antonio Salieri terug op zijn leven en vertelt hoe hij op het hoogtepunt van zijn roem door de jonge Mozart muzikaal wordt vernederd ten overstaan van de keizer. De bovennatuurlijke inspiratie waar Salieri heel zijn leven om heeft gebeden, heeft God geschonken aan een brutale, verwende jongeman. Gek van jaloezie besluit hij Mozart koste wat kost ten gronde te richten. Geniet van deze tijdloze film en van de livemuziek gespeeld door het Residentieorkest.
Soundtrack
De soundtrack, opgenomen door Academy of St. Martin in the Fields met een glansrol voor Mozarts Requiem, drong zelfs door tot de popmuziekhitlijsten.

Showered with many awards, among others an Oscar, director Miloš Forman’s Amadeus about the last years of Mozart’s life was one of the major cinema successes of the eighties. Although the script is not historically accurate throughout, everything is depicted sublimely. In the film, the old court composer Antonio Salieri looks back to his life and recounts how he was humiliated musically by a young Mozart in front of the emperor at the height of his fame. God gifted the supernatural inspiration Salieri had been praying for all his life to a rude, spoiled young man. Mad with jealousy he decides to ruin Mozart, at all costs. The soundtrack, recorded by the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields with a leading role for Mozart’s Requiem, even entered the pop-music charts. This showing accompanied by live music is an extraordinary opportunity for both film and music aficionados.
