De Oosterpoort & VERA present:
The indie folk band Other Lives (from Stillwater, Oklahoma) was founded in 2009, but has been active since 2004. In that year they started under the name Kunek and now the five remaining five band members form Other Lives. The sound of the band lies somewhere between contemporary folk (think Bon Iver) and contemporary classical compositions, by Philip Glass for example. On the most recent album ‘Tamer Animals’ the carefully composed, orchestral folk music in which the music and composition are the most prominent pillars and the lyrics adds to this can be heard. Because of this, the band can be seen as building on the sound of Kunek, which was mostly instrumental. Other Lives was the supporting program for Bon Iver and Radiohead and performed at festivals such as Iceland Airwaves and Coachella. In collaboration with VERA (where Other Lives performed for a sold out room in 2012) this special band is now coming to the Kleine Zaal in De Oosterpoort.

De indiefolkband Other Lives (uit Stillwater, Oklahoma) bestaat sinds 2009, maar is eigenlijk al actief sinds 2004. In dat jaar begonnen ze onder de naam Kunek en vijf overgebleven leden vormen nu Other Lives. Het geluid van de band ligt ergens tussen de hedendaagse folk (denk aan een Bon Iver) en hedendaagse klassieke composities van bijvoorbeeld een Philip Glass.
Het meeste recente album ‘Tamer Animals’ laat dan ook zorgvuldig gecomponeerde, orkestrale folkmuziek horen waarbij de muziek en compositie de voornaamste pijlers zijn en de tekst deze aanvult. Wat dat betreft borduurt de band voort op het geluid van Kunek, dat voornamelijk instrumentaal was. Other Lives verzorgde al voorprogramma’s voor Bon Iver en Radiohead en speelde op festivals als Iceland Airwaves en Coachella. In samenwerking met VERA (waar Other Lives in 2012 voor een uitverkochte zaal stond) komt deze bijzondere band nu naar de Kleine Zaal van De Oosterpoort.
The Black Atlantic is het project van Geert van der Velde. Eerder speelde hij nog met band, maar afgelopen jaar tourde Van der Velde solo. En ook zonder band weet hij het publiek te betoveren met zijn prachtige stem en sterk gecomponeerde nummers.
