De prog-rockband Marillion brak halverwege de jaren 80 door met hits als Kayleigh, Lavender en Incommunicado. In die periode verkocht de groep wereldwijd meer dan 15 miljoen albums. Hoewel de bezetting in de loop der jaren veranderde, is de sterke muzikale kern overeind gebleven. In hun werk klinken invloeden door uit de symfonische rock, maar ook uit pop, artrock en elektronische muziek. Met die benadering ontwikkelden ze een herkenbare, eigen stijl binnen het genre, waarbij ruimte is voor zowel emotie als technische precisie.
In de loop der jaren groeide de band uit tot een vaste waarde op internationale podia. Live staat Marillion bekend om hun sterke samenspel en het vermogen om lange, gelaagde nummers spannend te houden. Hun optredens zijn intens, soms ingetogen, soms groots en meeslepend, maar altijd tot in detail verzorgd.

Marillion is currently busy with the release of their new studio album, the follow-up to An Hour Before It’s Dark. But if frontman Steve Hogarth and his bandmates are looking forward to anything, it’s finally being back on the road.
Although the line-up has changed over the years, the strong musical core has remained intact. In addition to their 20 diverse studio albums, Marillion has also released 22 live albums, such as One Tonight – Live At The Royal Albert Hall (2018) and With Friends From The Orchestra (2019). These albums give a good impression of how the band sounds live: tight, intense, and musically layered.
