De drie laatste pianosonates van Beethoven – nr. 30, 31 en 32 – behoren tot de diepzinnigste en ontroerendste muziekstukken ooit geschreven. Beethoven componeerde de werken in de laatste fase van zijn leven, een periode waarin hij zich niet meer bezighield met virtuositeit of technische bravoure, maar op zoek ging naar muzikale en spirituele diepgang.
Met Leif Ove Andsnes zit wat dat betreft de gedroomde pianist achter de vleugel. De Noor werkte met toporkesten zoals de Berliner Philharmoniker en het New York Philharmonic Orchestra, bracht talloze bekroonde cd-opnames uit en was tussen 2011 en 2015 de drijvende kracht achter The Beethoven Journey, waarin hij Beethovens pianoconcerten uitvoerde én dirigeerde.
Technische perfectie gaat bij Andsnes hand in hand met emotionele diepgang. Of hij nu een intieme sonate speelt of een groots pianoconcert, zoals in november 2023 met het Noord Nederlands Orkest, zijn spel is altijd helder, krachtig en meeslepend. Beethoven’s last three piano sonatas – Nos. 30, 31 and 32 – are among the most profound and moving pieces of music ever written. Beethoven composed the works in the last phase of his life, a period when he was no longer concerned with virtuosity or technical bravado, but instead sought musical and spiritual depth.
In this respect, with Leif Ove Andsnes, the dream pianist sits behind the grand piano. The Norwegian has worked with top orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic and the New York Philharmonic Orchestra, released numerous award-winning CD recordings and between 2011 and 2015 was the driving force behind The Beethoven Journey, in which he performed and conducted Beethoven’s piano concertos.
With Andsnes, technical perfection goes hand in hand with emotional depth.
