Kurt Elling
De albums van de wereldberoemde jazzvocalist Kurt Elling (Chicago, 1967) worden steevast genomineerd voor een Grammy. Elling is dan ook niet alleen een uitmuntende zanger, die in het rijtje past van roemrijke voorgangers als Jon Hendricks, Mark Murphy en Frank Sinatra, hij heeft ook een neus voor bijzonder repertoire. Kurt is een gerenommeerde beoefenaar van vocalese – het schrijven van woorden over instrumentele improvisaties – en heeft over de hele wereld getourd. Op The Beautiful Day herontdekt Elling het geluid van kerst, waarbij hij traditionele kerstsongs vermengt met nieuwe arrangementen.

Op The Beautiful Day herontdekt Elling het geluid van kerst, waarbij hij traditionele kerstliedjes vermengt met nieuwe arrangementen. Elling over het album “I knew I didn’t want to make a ‘religious’ record, just as I knew I didn’t want to make a standard, swingin’ jazzy Christmas. I’m trying to expand my consciousness and embrace the goodness of the season, and I want to include everybody. For me, Christmas is a time of consideration, of pondering mysteries.”
