Beroemdste pianoduo ter wereld
Katia en Marielle Labèque vormen al vele jaren het beroemdste en meest flamboyante pianoduo ter wereld. Hoewel geen tweeling, zijn de zussen al bijna een halve eeuw onafscheidelijk. Met als belangrijkste wapens hun muzikale overtuigingskracht, een schat aan ervaring en – eerlijk is eerlijk – hun verschijning veroverden ze wereldwijd het publiek en namen ze de ene na de andere pracht-cd op. Het duo komt naar Groningen met op het programma onder meer een bijzondere versie van wat door velen wordt gezien als de beste musical ooit: ‘West Side Story’ van Leonard Bernstein, wiens honderdste geboortedag in 2018 wordt gevierd. Deze bewerking voor twee piano’s en slagwerk werd eind jaren tachtig op verzoek van Bernstein speciaal voor Katia en Marielle Labèque gemaakt door Irwin Kostal en tweemaal op cd uitgebracht.

The most famous piano duo in the world
Katia and Marielle Labèque are possibly the most famous and flamboyant piano duo in the world, and although they’re not twins, the sisters have been inseparable for nearly half a century. Their most important weapons are their musical convictions, a treasure trove of experience and – fair is fair – their looks, and with these assets they have conquered audiences worldwide and recorded one wonderful album after another. The duo is visiting Groningen, and one of the things on their program is a special version of what many consider to the best musical of all time: ‘West Side Story’ by Leonard Bernstein, whose hundredth birthday is celebrated in 2018. This adaptation for two pianos and percussion was requested by Bernstein in the late eighties and made for Katia and Marielle Labèque by Irwin Kostal, then published twice on CD.
