Danssensatie met traditionele Maori-elementen
“Definitely the most impressively physical dance show you will see at the Fringe this year, possibly ever.” Zo kondigde het toonaangevende Edinburgh Festival Fringe afgelopen zomer de show van Black Grace aan. Wat de choreografieën zo bijzonder maakt, is de mix van traditionele Maori-elementen en moderne dans met bewegingen die rechtstreeks van de straat geplukt zijn. In een eerdere voorstelling maakte de Nieuw-Zeelandse danssensatie tijdens Holland Dance Festival al indruk met “fysieke, aardse en compacte, soms bijna vierkant aandoende power” (de Volkskrant ).
Choreograaf en oprichter Neil Ieremia stelt een afwisselend programma samen, met verhalende dans over grote levensvragen, maar ook razend energieke stukken die de grenzen van het fysieke uithoudingsvermogen zoeken.

Dance sensation with Maori traditions
“Definitely the most impressively physical dance show you will see at the Fringe this year, possible ever.” That’s how the renowned Edinburgh Festival Fringe announced Black Grace’s show last summer. What makes the choreographies so special is the mix of traditional Maori elements and modern dance with movements that were taken right out of the street. Previously the New Zealand dance sensation made a great impression during Holland Dance Festival with “physical, earthly and compact, almost seemingly square power” (de Volkskrant). Choreographer and founder Neil Ieremia puts together a variable program, with narrative dance about big life questions, but also extremely energetic pieces that test the limits of physical endurance.
