De Belgische Amenra is even experimenteel en sfeergericht als onmogelijk heavy. Begin jaren 2000 ontstond de extreme metalband met een veelzijdig geluid geworteld in doom, sludge, post-metal en hardcore punk. Hun debuut ‘Mass I’ verscheen in 2003, en sindsdien blijft de groep de grenzen van extreme metal oprekken met geprezen albums als Mass V (2012) en De Doorn (2021).
Op hun laatste album De Doorn lieten ze een andere kant zien, ontstaan vanuit twee intense vuurrituelen in Gent en Menen. Sculpturen, rouw, publiek en vuur vormden het uitgangspunt en die geladen sfeer hoor je terug. Met akoestische elementen, veel ruimte voor stilte en Caro Tanghe (Oathbreaker) in een prominente rol, klinkt Amenra gelaagder dan ooit. De Doorn is geen Mass, maar een ander soort monument.

The Belgian Amenra is as experimental and atmosphere-driven as it is impossibly heavy. Formed in the early 2000s, the extreme metal band built a versatile sound rooted in doom, sludge, post-metal, and hardcore punk. Their debut Mass I appeared in 2003, and since then, the group has continued to push the boundaries of extreme metal with acclaimed albums like Mass V (2012) and De Doorn (2021).
On their latest album De Doorn, they revealed a different side, shaped by two intense fire rituals in Ghent and Menen. Sculptures, grief, the public, and fire formed the foundation—and that charged atmosphere is audible throughout. With acoustic elements, plenty of space for silence, and Caro Tanghe (Oathbreaker) in a prominent role, Amenra sounds more layered than ever. De Doorn isn’t a Mass, but another kind of monument.
