Op zaterdag 20 september nodigen The Vices je opnieuw uit in hun surrealistische speeltuin, waar muziek, skateramps en verborgen bars elkaar kruisen als in een koortsdroom. Verwacht alles en niets tegelijk: punkbands, dj’s, acrobatiek, vinyl en dat gevoel dat alles op precies de juiste manier nét verkeerd gaat. ViceFest is geen concertavond, maar een trip waarvan je niet wist dat je nodig had. Met Circa Waves, Preoccupations, The Pill, Ellie Dixon, Parker Fans en natuurlijk The Vices op het affiche zal De Oosterpoort een volledige chaos worden!
VICEFEST
Een chaotisch eendagsfestival gevuld met muziek, vrijheid en vele droomwerelden om te ontdekken.
Duik een avond in de wondere wereld van ViceFest. Verschillende droomwerelden komen samen en clashen met elkaar. Een surreële en chaotische ervaring! Het ene moment sta je te moshen bij een punkrockband, het volgende moment word je meegevoerd door een stel acrobaten, even later kan je niet stoppen met dansen op de psychedelische muziek die je in een verborgen bar hebt gevonden om vervolgens op een skateboard te stappen. ViceFest is een atypische avond uit waarop je geconfronteerd wordt met kanten van jezelf waarvan je niet verwacht had dat je ze leuk zou vinden, maar uiteindelijk doe je dat dan misschien toch!
Circa Waves
De “Hottest Band Of The Planet” (NME) komt naar Groningen om ViceFest te headlinen. Circa Waves brak in 2015 door met de indie hit T-Shirt Weather (meer dan 145.000.000 streams!) en heeft met de release van hun nieuwe album Death & Love, Pt. 1 ondertussen al 5 albums op hun naam staan. Het zijn albums vol melodische indierock die doen denken aan Arctic Monkeys en The Strokes. Frontman Kieran Shudall vertelt dat het nieuwe album een herinnering is dat hij wil blijven leven. Na een heftige hartoperatie in 2023 moest hij een nieuwe manier van leven opbouwen. Het resultaat? Een album vol met hoop en levenslustigheid dat wordt onthaald als hun beste album in jaren. Circa Waves heeft overal gespeeld, van Glastonbury tot Lollapalooza. En nu..? Nu is het tijd voor ViceFest!
Girl Ultra
Girl Ultra uit Mexico City staat in haar thuisland Mexico, maar ook in de USA en Latijns Amerika bekend om haar mix van Spaanstalige R&B, rock en clubmuziek. Ze bracht haar rauwe en innovatieve stijl al naar Coachella, Tiny Desk, Lollapalooza Argentinië en Chili, Boiler Room, Primavera Sound, KEXP en ze tourde met The Marías. De laatste tijd komt Girl Ultra (gelukkig!) ook vaker naar Europa. Zowel live als op haar album en EP’s breekt ze steeds verder door de grenzen van bestaande genres. Girl Ultra. De eerste Mexicaanse artiest op ViceFest. Wij kunnen niet wachten!
PREOCCUPATIONS
De eerste Canadese band ooit op ViceFest: de legendarische Preoccupations! Preoccupations werd opgericht in 2012 in Calgary, toen nog onder de naam Viet Cong. Deze band die in de afgelopen 13 jaar een iconische status heeft verworven grossiert in donkere muziek voor donkere tijden. Soms is muziek en tekst schrijven over zijn angsten de enige manier waarop frontman Matthew Flegel de dag door kan komen. Het resulteert in een art-rock/post-punk sound waarin verhalen over verschroeide vlaktes en sciencefiction oceanen vol eenzaamheid en een beetje hoop voorbij vliegen. Zo ook op hun nieuwe album Ill at Ease. Een band voor liefhebbers van Protomartyr, Shame en Crack Cloud.
ELLIE DIXON
Ellie Dixon maakt geestige, levenslustige alt-pop. Met haar DIY stijl waarin ze continu de grenzen verlegd van wat er mogelijk is in haar slaapkamer studio en op het podium is deze Britse artiest ondertussen zowel online als offline een waar fenomeen geworden. Vanuit deze slaapkamer heeft Ellie een toegewijde fanbase van miljoenen mensen opgebouwd. Daarnaast speelt ze live voor honderdduizenden mensen op o.a. Glastonbury, is ze uitgeroepen tot MTV Spotlight Artist en draaide de BBC haar muziek als Hottest Track Of The Week. Niemand kan meer om Ellie Dixon heen, Engeland niet, Amerika niet, en ViceFest ook niet.
The Pill
2 vrouwen die iconische punk maken vol herkenbare problemen zoals de tuinman die je naakt ziet lopen en het hebben van té blond haar. Simpelweg lol maken om de hordes van het leven, zoals ze het zelf omschrijven. Maar er zit meer achter. The Pill kaart grote problemen aan op een satirische manier. Met bands als Wet Leg en Coach Party is het duidelijk dat The Isle of Wight een broedplaats is voor goede muziek met een knipoog. Met The Pill heeft het Engelse eiland er weer een geweldige band bij.
MAN/WOMAN/CHAINSAW
Sinds hun debuut op 16-jarige leeftijd, en met nog maar 3 singles op zak, staat man/woman/chainsaw nu al bekend als een van de meest opwindende en onvoorspelbare bands uit Londen. De band maakt art-punk met viool en piano die zowel vrolijk als rauw is waarin duidelijk hoorbaar is dat ze zich uit dezelfde scène voortkomen als bands als Black Country, New Road en Black Midi. Maar is deze band echt te plaatsen in een categorie? Wie iets verder luistert hoort uitstapjes van pop tot metal. Dat belooft wat!
PARKER FANS
De muziek van het Nederlandse trio Parker Fans voelt als jouw favoriete mixtape uit de middelbare school, maar dan vertaald door een live band. De basis ingrediënten zijn simpel doch trefzeker: drumsamples, synths, de ultra groovy baslijnen van Sem… en heel veel lol. De belangrijkste richtlijn is doodeenvoudig: de dansvloer in vuur en vlam zetten en de grenzen van een goede groove keer op keer verleggen.
Met optredens op o.a. Best Kept Secret, Eurosonic, Left of the Dial en Into The Great Wide Open – en shows met Altin Gün, Pip Blom en Jungle By Night – bouwen Parker Fans een reputatie op die staat voor maximale chaos. Hun razend aanstekelijke songs bekijken het schimmige nachtleven door een gebarsten lens. Of het nou in donkere clubs is of op grotere festivalweides, iedereen gaat los. Het ViceFest publiek kennende wordt daar nog een schepje bovenop gegooid. Maak je borst maar nat.
EMVAE b2b MOXES
Het is tijd voor twee helden uit de Groningse elektronische muziekscene te verwelkomen op ViceFest. Het is tijd voor Emvae b2b Moxes! Verwacht een set vol house bangers, onverwachte breakbeats en harde bass drops waarbij je de positieve energie blijft toenemen. Emvae en Moxes gaan hard en willen vooral liefde, plezier en sexyness verspreiden. Het is tijd om te dansen!
Bob uit Zuid
Hoor ik nou Beastie Boys? Black Keys? Osdorp Posse? Het is Bob uit Zuid. De verloren zoon die naam maakte met onder meer de singles ‘Karpervissen’ en ‘Ik Huil Nooit’, is terug. Zijn nieuwe album luistert naar de profetische naam ‘Heilig’ en daarmee ligt de lat voor die immer moeilijke tweede meteen torenhoog. Aan bravado dus geen gebrek bij Bob uit Zuid, die als rapper een unieke positie inneemt op indielabel Excelsior Recordings, maar net als op zijn gelijknamige debuutalbum lost hij de verwachtingen moeiteloos in. Bob uit Zuid is en blijft een vreemde eend in de bijt in de hedendaagse Nederlandse hiphopscene. Een vreemde eend die je live gezien moet hebben.
The Vices
The Vices spelen hun nieuwe album voor het eerst in Groningen.
The Vices brengen de rauwheid van alternatieve rock op geheel eigen wijze terug. In alles wat de Groningers doen voel je de tegendraadsheid, de kwetsbaarheid, de liefde en het plezier. De live shows zijn explosief en hun muziek is doordrenkt met levendigheid en improvisaties. Het lijkt allemaal rechtstreeks voort te komen uit de imperfecties die ons als mensen zo bekend zijn. Two women making iconic punk about relatable issues—like the gardener catching you walking around naked or having hair that’s too blonde. They simply have fun with life’s absurdities, as they put it. With her DIY approach—constantly pushing the limits of what’s possible from her bedroom studio and on stage—this British artist has become a phenomenon both online and offline. From that very bedroom, Ellie has built a devoted fanbase of millions. She’s played to hundreds of thousands at festivals like Glastonbury, was named an MTV Spotlight Artist, and her music has been featured as BBC’s Hottest Track Of The Week. Ellie Dixon is unavoidable—England knows it, America knows it, and now so does ViceFest.
PARKER FANS
The music of Dutch trio Parker Fans feels like your favorite high school mixtape—translated into a live band. The basic ingredients are simple but effective: drum samples, synths, the ultra-groovy basslines of Sem… and a whole lot of fun. Their guiding principle is clear: set the dancefloor on fire and keep redefining what a good groove can be.
With shows at Best Kept Secret, Eurosonic, Left of the Dial, and Into The Great Wide Open—plus gigs with Altin Gün, Pip Blom, and Jungle By Night—Parker Fans have built a reputation for total chaos.
