'Revisit the time when 80's pop ruled the world'
Op 4 november strijkt de jaren 80-sensatie en Britse synthpopgroep The Human League neer in Groningen voor een spetterende show. In de jaren tachtig behaalde de band grote successen met singles als Don’t You Want Me, Human en Mirror Man. The Human League komt in het kader van hun Red Live 2018 tour in november 2018 naar De Oosterpoort.
The Human League
De Britse popgroep The Human League wordt in 1977 opgericht als een ‘avantgarde synthpopgroep’. De band ontwikkelt al snel daarna een eigen, zeer gestileerde en hitgevoelige stijl. The League bestaat uit louter mannen, totdat in 1980 enkele bandleden de groep verlaten en leadzanger Philip Oakey doorgaat met twee zangeressen: Joanne Catherall en Susan Anne Gayle.
Don’t You Want me
De band treedt tot op de dag van vandaag op in deze samenstelling waarmee grote successen werden behaald, zoals Don’t You Want Me uit 1981. The Human League heeft miljoenen platen verkocht, twee generaties artiesten geïnspireerd, een aantal geweldige klassiekers geschreven, de topposities in de hitlijsten in Europa en de VS behaald en is altijd onafhankelijk gebleven.
Synthpopband
In november 2016 stond de band in Paradiso, Amsterdam en dat leverde louter positieve recensies op. Lust for Life schreef er het volgende over: “Als je als synthpopband zo’n origineel en hitbestendig geluid produceert als The Human League, is er geen heel uitbundige show nodig om het publiek een uitstekende anderhalf uur te bezorgen. Toch haalt het trio werkelijk alles uit de kast in Paradiso: swingende songs worden puik uitgevoerd, het geluid is prima en aan de aankleding kan menig popster een puntje zuigen”, “op muzikaal vlak is The Human League nog altijd steengoed” en “The Human League vermaakt juist door bij zijn roots te blijven, wat het tot een heel fijne, tijdloze act maakt.”

Het elektronische duo Shelter is de support van The Human League op 4 november! Mark R Bebb (zang) en Rob Bradley (synths) brengen een synthpop sound die doet denken aan Soft.Cell, Erasure en de Pet Shop Boys.

In the 80s the band scored major successes with singles as Don’t You Want Me, Human, and Mirror Man. The Human League brings their Red Live 2018 tour to De Oosterpoort in November 2018.
The Human League
British pop group The Human League was founded in 1977 as an ‘avant-garde synth-pop group’. The band quickly developed a characteristic, highly stylised style that guaranteed hits. The League consisted only of men, until several band members left the band in 1980 and lead singer Philip Oakey proceeded with singers Joanne Catherall and Susan Anne Gayle.
Don’t You Want Me
This still is the band’s formation, which is highly successful and scored hits as the 1981 Don’t You Want Me. The Human League sold millions of albums, inspired two generations of artists, wrote a number of great classics, climbed to the top of the charts in Europe and the US, and always remained independent.
Synth-pop band
In November 2016 the band performed in Paradiso, Amsterdam, which yielded positive reviews only. Lust for Life wrote: “If a synth-pop band is capable of producing a sound that is as original and guarantees as many hits as The Human League, they do not need a highly exuberant show to give the audience an outstanding one and a half hours. Yet the trio gave their all to Paradiso: swinging songs are performed superbly, the sound is fine, and the stage setting is exemplary for many a popstar”, “musically The Human League is still grand”, and ” instead The Human League entertains by staying close to their roots, which ensures a fine and timeless act”.
