In 2001 richtte dirigent Nigel Short – lid van vocaal ensemble The King’s Singers – het Tenebrae Choir op, dat al snel furore maakte. Het koor werkte samen met onder meer het London Symphony Orchestra en Sir Colin Davis en werd tot tweemaal toe bekroond met de award voor beste koorprestaties in het BBC Music Magazine Awards.
Tegenwoordig behoort het veelbekroonde ensemble tot de boegbeelden van de Engelse koortraditie. In het kader van het Schitgerfestival (dat dit jaar plaatsvindt van 16 t/m 20 oktober verzorgt het koor in de Martinikerk een prachtig programma met motetten van Bach, Reger en Schütz.

In 2001 conductor Nigel Short – member of the vocal ensemble The King’s Singers – founded the Tenebrae Choir, which gained popularity right away. The choir worked together with among others the London Symphony Orchestra and Sir Colin Davis and was awarded with the BBC Music Magazine Award for best choir performance twice. This prize-winning ensemble is one of the figure heads of the English choir tradition. During the Schitger festival (taking place from 16 to 20 October this year) the choir gives wonderful performances of Bach, Reger and Schütz motets in the Martinikerk.
