Last year Snarky Puppy already gave a fantastic performance in the Kleine Zaal and now the band is returning to Groningen! Snarky Puppy is formed around bass player and band leader Michael League and consists of members who have also performed with Prince, Kirk Franklin and Marcus Miller, for example. The band has taken off very rapidly and has already won a Grammy in the category ‘Best R&B Performance’ for the song ‘Something’ (with Lalah Hathaway). With their mix of raw funk, soul, jazz and progressive rock this ensemble from Brooklyn embodies energy and musical innovation.
By now Snarky Puppy has built a warm relationship with the Netherlands. In 2013 and 2014 they gave impressive performances during North Sea Jazz Festival and within a week they recorded a unique album/DVD in Kyteman’s Kytopia, titled ‘We Like It Here’ (2013).The ‘Dutch Connection’ really reached its shape with ‘Sylva’, an album/DVD in collaboration with the Metropole Orchestra. You must see Snarky Puppy live at least once.

Vorig jaar gaf Snarky Puppy al een spetterend concert in de Kleine Zaal en de band komt terug naar Groningen! Snarky Puppy is gevormd rondom bassist en bandleider Michael League en bestaat uit leden die meespeelden met o.a. Prince, Kirk Franklin en Marcus Miller. De band maakt razendsnel furore en won al een Grammy in de categorie ‘Best R&B Performance’ voor het nummer ‘Something’ (met Lalah Hathaway). Met hun mix van rauwe funk, soul, jazz en progressieve rock staat dit ensemble uit Brooklyn voor energie en muzikale innovatie.
Snarky Puppy heeft ondertussen een warme band opgebouwd met Nederland. In 2013 en 2014 gaven ze indrukwekkende optredens tijdens het North Sea Jazz Festival en ze namen binnen een week een uniek album/dvd op in Kyteman’s Kytopia, getiteld ‘We Like It Here’ (2013). De ‘Dutch Connection’ kreeg nog meer vorm door ‘Sylva’, een album/dvd in samenwerking met het Metropole Orkest dat afgelopen april verscheen. Snarky Puppy moet je een keer live gezien hebben.
