Sivert Høyem
Europe 27
Kenmerkende stem achter Madrugada
The distinctive voice behind Madrugada
Some voices you recognise after a single note, and Sivert Høyem’s is one of them. For more than twenty years the Norwegian has been making dark, cinematic rock and melancholy ballads, somewhere between Nick Cave and Chris Isaak, first as the frontman of Madrugada and then solo. His Europe 27 tour brings him to De Oosterpoort.
Høyem grew up in Sortland, far above the Arctic Circle. In the late nineties he broke through with Madrugada and their debut ‘Industrial Silence’. As a solo artist he kept building steadily, with albums such as ‘Moon Landing’, ‘Lioness’ and, more recently, ‘On an Island’ and ‘Dancing Headlights’. In 2026, the year he turned fifty, he released the compilations ‘Best Of’ and ‘Rest Of’: the well-known songs and the lesser-known gems from across his career. Together with his long-time band he plays songs from all those years, from ‘Prisoner of the Road’ and ‘Into the Sea’ to the newer ‘Hollow’ and the Madrugada classic ‘Majesty’. Full-band moments alternate with sparse, intimate passages. Høyem is also back in the studio, so you might just catch a glimpse of what’s coming next.
