Het is ruim 35 jaar nadat het baanbrekende album Doolitlle resulteerde in de doorbraak van Pixies, alweer 20 jaar na hun gevierde comeback op Coachella en het is in maart 2 jaar geleden sinds ze in de Grote zaal van De Oosterpoort al lieten zien dat ze grootser zijn dan ooit. Op dit moment zit de meest invloedrijke en vooruitstrevende alternatieve rockband uit de jaren 80 naar eigen zeggen in hun meest creatieve periode ooit en dat resulteert in een nieuw album dat luistert naar de titel The Night The Zombies Came (release okt 2024).
En bij nieuw werk hoort een uitgebreide tour en deze doet eind april De Oosterpoort in Groningen aan. Niet dat je alleen nieuw werk te horen zal krijgen, want de Pixies staan erom bekend dat ze live altijd gewoon spelen waar ze zin in hebben zonder voorbedachte setlist, waardoor geen enkele Pixies show ooit hetzelfde is. Ongetwijfeld komen dan ook klassiekers als Where’s My Mind en Heres Comes Your Man voorbij evenals vele andere nummers waaruit bands als Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, The Strokes, Weezer en vele anderen hun inspiratie haalden.

The Pale White is door The Independent geprezen als “viezige, QOTSA-achtige stonerrock” in een 5-sterren live-recensie, werd de lokale hype al snel omgezet in brede erkenning, grote supportslots en indrukwekkende festivaloptredens. En deze avond verzorgen ze het voorprogramma voor Pixies.
It’s been over 35 years since the groundbreaking album Doolittle resulted in the breakthrough of the Pixies, 20 years since their celebrated comeback at Coachella, and in March, it will be 3 years since they showed in the Main Hall of De Oosterpoort that they are bigger than ever. According to them, the most influential and progressive alternative rock band from the ’80s is currently in their most creative period ever, which has resulted in a new album titled The Night The Zombies Came (release: October 2024).
And with new work comes an extensive tour, which will include a stop at De Oosterpoort in Groningen at the end of April. Not that you’ll only hear new work, because the Pixies are known for playing whatever they feel like live, without a predetermined setlist, making every Pixies show unique. Undoubtedly, classics like Where’s My Mind and Here Comes Your Man will also make an appearance, along with many other songs that have inspired bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, The Strokes, Weezer, and many others.
