Wegens de enorme belangstelling voor het uitverkochte concert van Mahlers monumentale Achtste symfonie, stelt het Noord Nederlands Orkest de generale repetitie open voor publiek.
Tijdens deze laatste repetitie, waarin de musici en koren nog een keer het hele werk spelen voor ze hun kostuum aantrekken, hoor je de volledige symfonie onder leiding van Antony Hermus, met meer dan 400 musici en zangers op het podium. Een unieke kans om een van de meest iconische orkestwerken uit het symfonisch repertoire live mee te maken, tegen een gereduceerd tarief.

“Probeer je voor te stellen dat het hele heelal begint te zingen en te klinken. Het zijn geen menselijke stemmen meer, maar planeten en zonnen die om elkaar heen cirkelen.”
Zo schreef Gustav Mahler. In de zomer van 1906 kreeg Mahler een visioen. Overweldigt door deze plotselinge inspiratie schreef hij zijn monumentale Achtste Symfonie. Mahler componeerde vaker omvangrijke werken, maar zijn Achtste Symfonie, vaak ‘Symfonie van Duizend’ genoemd, is een van de meest iconische voorbeelden van zijn grootschalige aanpak.
Maar liefst 400 uitvoerenden zijn er nodig. Dit is dan ook de reden dat het zelden wordt uitgevoerd. Het NNO brengt dit monumentale werk naar Noord-Nederland. Samen met onder andere het Noord Nederlands Concertkoor, het Nederlands Concertkoor, en een cast van 8 internationale solisten. Dit alles onder leiding van NNO’s honorair dirigent Antony Hermus. En even indrukwekkend als de omvang van de bezetting is de manier waarop Mahler elk element verweeft in een rijke muzikale structuur. Met een ongekend palet aan klankkleuren en expressie roept hij een symfonisch landschap op waarmee hij reikt naar een hogere dimensie.

In deze Mahler week bezoek je op 10 december het How to Conduct Life festival. Verwacht kunst, muziek, gesprekken en een symfonisch slotakkoord door het Noord Nederlands Orkest. Due to the enormous interest in the sold-out concert of Mahler’s monumental Eighth Symphony, the North Netherlands Orchestra is opening its dress rehearsal to the public.
During this final rehearsal, in which the musicians and choirs will play the entire work once more before donning their costumes, you will hear the complete symphony conducted by Antony Hermus, with over 400 musicians and singers on stage. A unique opportunity to experience one of the most iconic orchestral works in the symphonic repertoire live, at a reduced price.

“Try to imagine the entire universe beginning to sing and resonate. They are no longer human voices, but planets and suns circling each other.”
So wrote Gustav Mahler. In the summer of 1906, Mahler had a vision. Overwhelmed by this sudden inspiration, he wrote his monumental Eighth Symphony. Mahler often composed extensive works, but his Eighth Symphony, often called the “Symphony of a Thousand,” is one of the most iconic examples of his large-scale approach.
It requires no fewer than 400 performers. This is why it is rarely performed. The NNO (Dutch National Orchestra) brings this monumental work to the Northern Netherlands. Along with the North Netherlands Concert Choir, the Netherlands Concert Choir, and a cast of eight international soloists, all under the direction of NNO’s honorary conductor Antony Hermus. And just as impressive as the size of the ensemble is the way Mahler weaves each element into a rich musical structure. With an unprecedented palette of timbres and expression, he evokes a symphonic landscape that reaches for a higher dimension.
