Hope speelt zich af in een bar waar musicalsterren, sekswerkers en stamgasten samenkomen voor een avond karaoke en drank. Wat begint als een luchtige avond ontspoort in een felle discussie over waarheid, hoop en protest. In het hart van de chaos staat Casey, een jonge vrouw die confronteert en verbindt. Hope onderzoekt op fysieke, muzikale en scherpe wijze hoe waarheid verschuift en gemanipuleerd wordt. Met Thalia Theater Hamburg en een internationale cast is dit een actuele voorstelling binnen New NITE Stories — voor een tijd waarin zelfs aan de bar de waarheid niet meer vanzelfsprekend is.
Hope is een meertalige en interdisciplinaire productie vol dans, spel en muziek. De voorstelling ontstaat in een unieke samenwerking tussen NITE en het Thalia Theater Hamburg. Door de combinatie van verschillende disciplines en talen, reflecteert Hope niet alleen op de inhoudelijke thema’s van macht en manipulatie, maar ook op de bredere vraag hoe samenlevingen met onzekerheid omgaan. Terwijl structuren wankelen en autoritaire krachten toenemen, blijft de zoektocht naar waarheid en rechtvaardigheid voortduren. Zo biedt Hope een aangrijpende en urgente blik op de spanning tussen twijfel en overtuiging, repressie en opstand.

Doubt and skepticism are essential to a healthy society. They allow us to question power structures and safeguard democratic values. But what happens when those in power start using doubt as a weapon? When mistrust is deliberately fueled and truths are twisted, society risks becoming destabilized. In this dangerous game, systems begin to crumble and authoritarian forces gain ground.
Hope, a powerful and socially critical play by German playwright Maria Milisavljević, delves into this pressing dynamic. In a gripping performance, the timeless struggle for justice and equality takes center stage. Drawing on mythological references and historical events, Milisavljević connects past and present—showing how repression and resistance have influenced each other throughout the ages.
This interdisciplinary and multilingual production is a unique collaboration between NITE, Club Guy & Roni, and Thalia Theater Hamburg. Hope blends dance, theatre, and music into a sensory experience that reflects on themes such as power, manipulation, and social uncertainty.
As old structures begin to falter and new forms of repression emerge, the search for truth and justice remains as urgent as ever. Hope offers a compelling and artistically rich perspective on the tensions between doubt and conviction, oppression and resistance—and poses the vital question: how do we build a just future together?
