Sterharpiste en kersvers Edison-winnares Lavinia Meijer en de New Yorkse altvioliste, radiomaker en curator Nadia Sirota nemen je mee op een reis langs bijzondere muziek, verhalen en anekdotes van componisten die gezichtsbepalend zijn voor de hedendaagse klassieke muziek. De locatie is bijzonder: de mooie en intieme Lutherse Kerk.
Meijer zet na samenwerkingen met Ólafur Arnalds, Philip Glass en Iggy Pop haar niet aflatende zoektocht naar nieuwe muziek en partnerships voort. Nadia Sirota is lid van het sextet yMusic en sinds 2018 muziekprogrammeur van de New York Philharmonic Orchestra. Ze bracht muziek in première van hedendaagse componisten als Nico Muhly, Bryce Dessner en David Lang en werkte mee aan opnames van bands als Grizzly Bear en Arcade Fire. Daarnaast geniet Sirota bekendheid als radiomaker. Voor haar serie podcasts Meet the Composer kreeg ze in 2015 de Peabody Award. Een betere ambassadeur voor de muziek van nu is nauwelijks denkbaar.

Tijdens Shaping the future hoor je muziek van onder anderen Nico Muhly, Philip Glass, een speciaal voor Meijer en Sirota geschreven stuk van Ellis Ludwig-Leone, een bewerking die Ellen Reid maakte van een gedeelte uit haar met de Pulitzer Price bekroonde operadebuut p r i s m (2019), en een werk van Lavinia Meijer zelf.

Edison Klassiek voor Lavinia Meijer
In september ontving Lavinia Meijer een Edison in de categorie neoklassiek voor Are you still somewhere?, haar meest recente album dat ook eigen composities bevat. Een daarvan – DAMnation – staat ook op het programma van het concert Shaping the future.
Star harpist Lavinia Meijer and New York viola player, radio producer and curator Nadia Sirota will take you on a musical journey filled with extraordinary music, stories and anecdotes by composers who have proven vital to the image of contemporary classical music. The location is extraordinary as well: the beautiful and intimate Lutherse Kerk.
After collaborations with Ólafur Arnalds, Philip Glass and Iggy Pop, Meijer continues her relentless search for new music and partnerships. Nadia Sirota is a member of the sextet yMusic and music programmer of the New York Philharmonic Orchestra since 2018. Sirota is also known as a radio producer. She received the Peabody Award in 2015 for her podcast series Meet the Composer. It is hard to imagine a better ambassador for contemporary music.

During Shaping the future you will hear music by, among others, Nico Muhly and Philip Glass – whose music has played an integral part in Meijer’s career. There will also be a piece by Ellis Ludwig-Leone written especially for Meijer and Sirota and an arrangement that Ellen Reid made from a partition of her Pulitzer Prize-winning opera debut p r i s m (2019).
