One of the greatest singer-songwriters of the seventies is coming to De Oosterpoort. He already had around five years of musical travels behind him and a few beautiful songs on his credit (for example ‘Fire and Rain’), when in 1971 he scored a world hit with ‘You’ve Got A Friend’ written by Carole King. It was the beginning of a golden period for the American. He married Carly Simon and brought out a triad of successful albums at Warner Music. The years that followed brought him a Grammy (for the song ‘Handyman’), a new marriage, a strong heroin addiction and an honorary doctorate at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.
In 2008 Taylor performed for a sold-out Heineken Music Hall. “It feels like a warm blanket on a cold December night. The man still possesses one of the greatest voices of his generation and his songs still have the ability to bring many to tears”, according to Lust For Life.

Een van de grote singer-songwriters uit de jaren zeventig komt naar De Oosterpoort. Hij had al een jaar of vijf muzikale omzwervingen achter de rug en een paar prachtige nummers op zijn conto (denk aan ‘Fire and Rain’), toen hij in 1971 een wereldhit scoorde met het door Carole King geschreven ‘You’ve Got A Friend’. Het was het begin van een gouden periode voor de Amerikaan. Hij trouwde met Carly Simon en bracht een trits succesvolle albums uit bij Warner Music. De jaren die volgden brachten een Grammy (voor het nummer ‘Handyman’), een nieuw huwelijk, een stevige heroïneverslaving en een eredoctoraat aan het Berklee College of Music in Boston.
In 2008 stond Taylor nog in een uitverkochte Heineken Music Hall. “Het voelt als een warme deken op een koude decemberavond. De man beschikt nog altijd over een van de fijnste stemmen van zijn generatie en zijn songs kunnen menigeen nog altijd een traan doen wegpinken”, schreef Lust For Life.
