IST IST
Eén van de meest spannende bands uit Manchester momenteel is misschien wel IST IST. Enerzijds is dat te danken aan de geduchte reputatie die de band met compromisloos intense liveshows heeft weten neer te zetten, als aan de sterke DIY-ethiek die de mannen er op nahouden.
Liefhebbers van het postpunk genre horen ogenblikkelijk het geluid van een band als Joy Division terug, maar die vergelijking weten ze te ontstijgen doordat het viertal hier een eigen frisse en moderne draai aan weet te geven door middel van geraffineerd productiewerk en de toevoeging van elektronische elementen. IST IST past prima in een rijtje als Interpol, White Lies en het eerdere werk van Editors.
Het debuutalbum ‘Architecture’, uitgebracht tijdens de pandemie, behaalde aanzienlijk succes, gevolgd door het goed ontvangen ‘The Art of Lying’. Met hun derde album ‘Protagonisten’ en een uitverkochte tour door het VK en Europa versterkten ze hun positie als toonaangevende spelers in de Manchester muziekscene. Het livealbum, opgenomen tijdens een show in Amsterdam, markeert hun terugkeer in 2024, met nog meer verwachtingen voor hun tiende jaar waaronder een show in de Grote zaal van De Oosterpoort!
One of the most exciting bands from Manchester currently is arguably IST IST. This is partly due to the formidable reputation the band has built with uncompromisingly intense live shows, as well as their strong DIY ethos. Fans of the post-punk genre will instantly recognize echoes of bands like Joy Division, but IST IST transcends this comparison by infusing their own fresh and modern twist, incorporating refined production work and the addition of electronic elements. IST IST fits well alongside the likes of Interpol, White Lies, and the early work of Editors.
