Het Groot Omroepkoor brengt onder leiding van chef-dirigent Benjamin Goodson het a-capellaprogramma Like a prayer. Op het programma staan in muziek gestolde gebeden van Poulenc, Mendelssohn, Daniel-Lesur en Martin.
De Mis voor dubbelkoor is een van de meest uitgevoerde en beste composities van de Zwitsers-Nederlandse componist Frank Martin, die vijftig jaar geleden in Naarden overleed. Het prachtige Agnus Dei uit klinkt als een innige roep om vrede.
Ook Le cantique des cantiques, dat de Franse componist Jean-Ives Daniel-Lesur in 1952 voltooide, behoort tot de allermooiste koorcomposities van de twintigste eeuw. Het concert vindt plaats in de Martinikerk, een prachtige locatie om deze werken, uitgevoerd door het grootste professionele koor van Nederland, te ervaren.

The Groot Omroepkoor, the largest professional choir in the Netherlands, is closely linked to the Dutch Foundation for Public Broadcasting (NPO). Almost all concerts are part of broadcast series such as AVROTROS Vrijdagconcert, NTR ZaterdagMatinee, and Zondagochtend Concert. Their visit to the Martinikerk in the spring of 2024 is therefore an excellent – and rare – opportunity for enthusiasts to see this superior choir at work. The program features solely highlights from their a cappella repertoire.
The Mass for double choir by the Swiss composer Frank Martin is regarded as one of the most beautiful choral compositions of the twentieth century. He started working on the composition in 1922, then he put it away, to add a moving Agnus Dei in 1926, only to put it away a second time. It was not until 1963 that this masterpiece saw its premiere. ‘I didn’t want the work to be performed. I saw it as a matter between God and myself,’ said Martin.
Cantique de Cantiques, completed in 1952 by the French composer Daniel Lesur, is also one of the vocal masterpieces of the past hundred years. The work is based on the Song of Songs, one of the most sensual texts to be found in the Bible.
