De 90s culthelden G. Love & Special Sauce komen naar Groningen! De groep, bekend van hun relaxte mix van Delta-stijl blues en old-school hip-hop, staan op dinsdag 14 november in De Oosterpoort.
De uit Philadelphia afkomstige groep G. Love & Special Sauce staan bekend om hun relaxte mix van Delta-stijl blues en old-school hip-hop. Onder leiding van singer-songwriter G. Love brak de groep door met G. Love & Special Sauce in 1994. De van het album afkomstige radiohits Cold Beverage en Baby’s Got Sauce mogen we inmiddels gerust nineties-klassiekers noemen. Opvolger Coast To Coast Motel (1995) was minstens even goed, en daarmee was het fundament gelegd. Ze bleven cultfavorieten in de jaren ’90 met albums als Yeah, It’s That Easy, en Philadelphonic. Na een pauze van zes jaar kwam de originele line-up van G. Love & Special Sauce (met Clemens en Prescott) weer bij elkaar voor het nummer Sugar (2014). In juli 2022 keerde Love terug met Philadelphia Mississippi, waarmee Love zijn mix van old-school blues en hip-hop bleef onderzoeken, met gasten als gitarist Alvin Youngblood Hart, rap-icoon Schoolly D en Speech van Arrested Development.

Hailing from Philadelphia, the group G. Love & Special Sauce is renowned for their relaxed fusion of Delta-style blues and old-school hip-hop. Led by singer-songwriter G. Love, the group made their breakthrough with G. Love & Special Sauce in 1994. The radio hits Cold Beverage and Baby’s Got Sauce from the album have now become ’90s classics. The follow-up album, Coast To Coast Motel (1995), was equally impressive, laying a solid foundation. They remained cult favorites in the ’90s with albums like Yeah, It’s That Easy and Philadelphonic. After a six-year hiatus, the original lineup of G. Love & Special Sauce (with Clemens and Prescott) reunited for the song Sugar in 2014. In July 2022, Love returned with Philadelphia Mississippi, where he continued to explore his blend of old-school blues and hip-hop, featuring guests like guitarist Alvin Youngblood Hart, rap icon Schoolly D, and Speech from Arrested Development.
