Don Carlos and Geo
New Horizon Tour
Roots reggae, with lyrics about faith, love, and social issues
Don Carlos is one of the mainstays of roots reggae. His music is firmly rooted in roots reggae, with lyrics about faith, love, and social issues. Don grew up in Waterhouse, a West Kingston neighborhood known for its rich musical history. He started here in the 1970s as the singer of Black Uhuru, along with Garth Dennis and Duckie Simpson. Her debut album, Love Crisis, was produced by Prince Jammy and was later re-released as Black Sounds of Freedom. Nevertheless, Carlos quickly chooses his own path. And it turns out to be at least as influential!
Since the 1980s, he has developed as a solo artist with a distinctive style: relaxed yet urgent, spiritual yet accessible. Albums like Suffering, Day to Day Living, and Harvest Time sound heavy in production, but light in tone. With his regular musical partner Goldie, he toured international stages for years, building a loyal fan base, especially in Africa and California. Live, he sings with a natural calmness and shows why he is a mainstay within the genre. Don Carlos guaranties pure roots reggae from an artist with a rich past and a powerful message.
But that’s not all! With a voice rooted in classic roots reggae yet open to innovation, Geo (son of Don Carlos) represents a new generation within the genre. His music breathes the spirit of his father, but sounds undeniably contemporary. He shares his personal stories and vision live, driven by compassion and social commitment. Geo collaborated with producers like Jahsolidrock and Tuff Gong and performed in Europe, Africa, and his homeland, Jamaica. He is the founder of Reggae Gone Viral, a platform for independent reggae music. His new single “Ackee Tree” will be released soon, and he is working on a collaboration with his father and Kevin Grant of Musical Youth.
