Voor de vierenhalf uur durende theaterervaring Odisseia liet de beroemde en beruchte Braziliaanse regisseur en toneelschrijver Leonardo Moreira zich inspireren door het bekende verhaal over Odysseus. Hij verliet huis en haard om oorlog te voeren en na afloop nog eens tien jaar rondzwierf voor hij thuiskwam. In een sterke toneel-op-toneelsetting neemt het publiek de plaats in van de afwezige held en vertolken de acteurs de verschillende personages op diens pad. De spelers verweven hun persoonlijke herinneringen, twijfels en dromen met de verhalen van personages uit de originele verzen.

Rockende roadtrip door het landschap van moderne vrouwen
Odisseia vertegenwoordigt op ijzersterke wijze het vrouwelijk perspectief in dit heldenverhaal, waarbij nieuwfeminisme en de #MeToo discussie uiterst intelligent verbonden worden met de ervaringen van de vrouwelijke personages. Odisseia is een rockende roadtrip door het landschap van moderne vrouwen in relatie tot de al of niet van zijn voetstuk gevallen held. De theatermarathon is feministisch, humoristisch, activistisch en vooral hyperactueel.

Na de recente, uiterst positief ontvangen wereldpremière tijdens het prestigieuze Fast Forward Festival in Athene, stonden alle Europese theaters in de rij. Gelukkig stonden wij vooraan, waardoor we dit spraakmakende stuk in Groningen en alle andere Explore steden kunnen tonen.

(In)famous Brazilian director and stage author Leonardo Moreira uses the well-known story about the man who leaves house and home to wage war and then journeys for another ten years before returning home as his inspiration for this four-and-a-half-hour theatre experience. In a strong stage-on-stage setting, the audience takes the place of the absent hero, and the actors play the various characters he comes across. The players interweave their personal memories, doubts and dreams with the tales told by the characters of the original poem.

Odisseia is an absolutely convincing presentation of the female point of view in this heroic epic which most intelligently combines new feminism and the #MeToo discussion with the experiences of the female characters. Odisseia is a rocking road trip through the landscape of modern women in relationship to the hero who may or may not have been toppled from his pedestal. Highly unique, feminist, humorous, activist and first and foremost very current.
Explore Festival
Following the play’s recent, highly acclaimed world première at the prestigious Fast Forward Festival in Athens, all the European theatres were queuing up. Fortunately we were right at the front of the queue, and as a result we will be able to present this high-profile play in all Explore cities.
