Prijswinnend Braziliaans theater
‘O Jardim’ is een met prijzen overladen theatervoorstelling van het Braziliaanse Cia Hiato. Het verhaal gaat over een bejaarde man, zijn ex-vrouw, dochters en kleinkinderen, met elk hun verleden en soms totaal tegengestelde herinneringen aan één en hetzelfde voorval. Het geheugen van de man hapert steeds vaker. Verhaallijnen doorkruisen en overlappen elkaar, botsen soms en vormen een gelaagde werkelijkheid waarin ieder zijn eigen waarheid koestert – een thematiek die doet denken aan Tsjechovs toneelstuk ‘De Kersentuin’. Het publiek zit aan drie kanten van het toneel, dicht op de huid van de spelers, die in dit stuk voor een groot deel hun eigen geschiedenis vertellen.

The theatre performance ‘O Jardim’ is based on personal memories of the Brazilian writer/director Leonardo Moreira and the actors. The still young Moreira has already won all the prizes one can win in Brazil and surrounding countries. ‘O Jardim’ is about an elderly man, his ex-wife, daughters and grandchildren, each with their own past and sometimes completely opposite memories about the same event. Several storylines cross and overlap one another, sometimes collide and form a layered truth. The cardboard boxes, with which the actors continually rearrange the stage, symbolize the memory but sometimes also reveal themselves to be Pandora’s boxes. Some things are better left unknown… The audience is seated at three sides of the stage, close up to the performers.
