“An extravagantly skilled trumpeter, relaxed and soulful… deftly combining sensitivity and flair” schreef The New York Times. “Like Davis, he can make the trumpet a vehicle for uttering the most poignant human cries”, aldus The New York Times.

Dream team

Avishai Cohen might be one of the most pioneering names in today´s international jazz scene. “A jazz trumpeter of the highest level,” according to national newspaper Volkskrant. “When he plays his trumpet, golden sound fills the room.” That golden sound filled De Oosterpoort before, during Rockit in 2017. Cohen now returns on Thursday 2 May and takes his Avishai Cohen Quartet with him.

Multiple projects
Avishai Cohen became known for his intense and virtuoso mix of jazz and Middle-East influences. “An extravagantly skilled trumpeter, relaxed and soulful… deftly combining sensitivity and flair,” says The New York Times. He shows he masters several jazz styles through multiple projects, as his trio Triveni and his electronic-fusion group Big Vicious. He shared the stage with among others Mark Turner Quartet and SF Jazz Collective. Avishai compares very favourably with Miles Davis. “Like Davis, he can make the trumpet a vehicle for uttering the most poignant human cries,” according to The New York Times.

Dream team
Avishai Cohen characterises the Quartet he is currently working with as his dream team. “We are in perfect balance. Open, with ample room for improvisation. At the same time the compositions are very specific, direct, and well thought-out,” says Cohen. He recorded the very well-received album Cross My Palm With Silver with them. “Powerful compositions and flawless sounds” (Written in Music).
