In 2024 hadden we al eens een avond staan rondom Western As F*ck; het Amerikaanse Youtube-kanaal met een neusje voor de meest spraakmakende talenten uit de Americana-scene. Op 7 mei keert Western AF terug naar Groningen met een drietal verse singer-songwriters. Dit maal treden Chris Acker, Rachel Baiman en Northcote op in het A-Theater.
Chris Acker schrijft eerlijke nummers vol humor in een genre dat vaak draait om sterke verhalen en verkoopbare leugens. Sinds hij zijn geboorteplaats Seattle verruilde voor het rauwe New Orleans, geeft hij met een breekbare stem kleur aan het alledaagse, in de traditie van Woody Guthrie en John Prine. Acker zingt niet over de romantiek van eindeloze snelwegen, maar over het echte leven: afwasbakken, nachtdiensten en kroegen waar de tijd zichtbaar zijn sporen heeft achtergelaten. Met zijn verhalen onthult hij de poëzie van het alledaagse.
Rachel Baiman brak in 2023 door met Common Nation of Sorrow, dat werd geprezen als een van de beste albums van het jaar door onder meer The Boston Globe en American Songwriter. Na meer dan 130 shows wereldwijd maakte ze van 2024 haar ‘Year of Collaboration’, met een reeks A- en B-kant singles samen met bevriende songwriters als Pony Bradshaw en Caroline Spence. Met haar scherpe, politiek én persoonlijk getinte teksten en een groeiende reputatie als producer blijft Baiman haar geluid vernieuwen en verdiepen.
Northcote is het muzikale project van de Canadese singer-songwriter Matt Goud, bekend om zijn oprechte liedjes en levendige liveoptredens. Sinds 2009 tourde hij internationaal en deelde hij het podium met onder anderen The Gaslight Anthem en Frank Turner, terwijl hij een trouwe fanbase opbouwde in Noord-Amerika en Europa. Met zeven studioalbums op zijn naam en de nieuwe plaat To Cherish (2026) blijft Northcote groeien, ontroeren en verbinden in zowel kleine clubs als op grote festivals.

In 2024, we already had an evening dedicated to Western As F*ck, the American YouTube channel with a nose for the most talked-about talents from the Americana scene. On May 7, Western AF returns to Groningen with three fresh singer-songwriters. This time, Chris Acker, Rachel Baiman, and Northcote will perform at the A-Theater.
Chris Acker writes honest songs full of humor in a genre that often revolves around tall tales and marketable lies. Since trading his hometown of Seattle for the raw New Orleans, he has been coloring everyday life with his fragile voice, in the tradition of Woody Guthrie and John Prine. Acker doesn’t sing about the romance of endless highways, but about real life: dishwashing, night shifts, and bars where time has left its mark. With his stories, he reveals the poetry of everyday life.
Rachel Baiman broke through in 2023 with Common Nation of Sorrow, which was praised as one of the best albums of the year by The Boston Globe and American Songwriter, among others. With seven studio albums to his name and the new record To Cherish (2026), Northcote continues to grow, move and connect audiences in both small clubs and large festivals.
