Waylon begint 2018 verwachtingsvol met de aankondiging live tour: The world can wait. Met het jaar waarin hij voor de tweede keer voor Nederland gaat deelnemen aan het songfestival, zou je denken dat de rest van de wereld juist niet kan wachten. Maar niets is minder waar. Waylon bedient eerst zijn eigen Nederlandse fans voordat hij afreist naar Portugal om heel Europa te gaan verrassen.

Waylon zal tijdens deze tour, die een aftrap is van misschien wel zijn meest bepalende jaar, het publiek onder andere een voorproefje geven van het langverwachte persoonlijke album met gelijknamige titel. Het album zal na het songfestival worden uitgebracht.
Waylon keert terug naar roots
The World Can Wait wordt het album waarbij Waylon terugkeert naar zijn muzikale roots, die geworteld zijn in zijn geliefde Nashville. Een album waarbij hij zijn grote helden van de country muziek eert, maar waarbij hij ook vooral zijn eigen sound in die voor hem zo inspirerende omgeving zal omarmen. En het wordt natuurlijk ook het album waarop de keuze van het songfestivallied 2018 zal staan, deze keuze zal op 10 maart bekend worden gemaakt.
“Er is voor mij geen ontsnappen aan. Iedere keer als ik mijn pen en gitaar op pak, zijn de eerste tonen toch altijd weer Country. Maar tegelijkertijd heeft mijn eigen ontwikkeling daar inmiddels een grote invloed op gehad.”
Weg van invloeden van buitenaf
De titel van de tour is vooral een verwijzing naar het uitsluiten van alle invloeden van buitenaf.
“Ik wil dat mensen die live naar mij komen kijken volledig kunnen opgaan in de muziek. Op het podium ben ik er helemaal voor mijn publiek, dat verwacht ik ook deze keer meer dan ooit van hen. Het liefst heb ik dat iedereen zijn mobiele telefoon thuis laat of uitzet. Vaak ga je toch filmen of foto’s maken. Je creëert weer een filter tussen wat je ervaart. Wat is een herinnering waard als je hem persé moet delen. Net of het anders niet is gebeurd. Hoe mooi zou het zijn als je die paar uur daar even los van komt en alleen met jezelf of mij een dialoog aangaat. Gewoon genieten. The World Can Wait.
2017, een gouden jaar
Afgelopen jaar was voor Waylon een mooie opmars naar 2018. Zijn tour was binnen een dag uitverkocht en hij was de winnende coach bij The Voice of Holland en eveneens winnaar van It takes 2. Daarnaast waren er 3 uitverkochte Ahoy shows met Radio Veronica’s Top 1000 Allertijden.

ergens naartoe en waar je arriveert is dan je thuis.”

Waylon starts 2018 expectantly with the announcement of a live tour: The world can wait. As it is the year he will represent the Netherlands at the Eurovision Song Contest for the second time, you would expect the rest of the world could not wait. But nothing is further from the truth. Waylon serves his Dutch fans before he travels to Portugal to surprise the rest of Europe.
The World Can Wait
During this tour, which is the kick-off to what will perhaps be his most definable year so far, Waylon will present the audience with a taste of his eponymous long-awaited personal album, which will be released after Eurovision.
Waylon returns to roots
The World Can Wait will be the album on which Waylon returns to his musical roots, originating from his beloved Nashville. He honours his heroes of country music on this album, but above all he embraces his own sound in that environment that inspires him so much. Furthermore, it will of course be the album that contains his 2018 Eurovision song – a choice that will be announced on 10 March.
“For me, there is no escaping. Every time I take my pen and guitar, the first notes are always Country. Yet simultaneously my own development now is a major influence there.”
Away from external influences
The tour’s title mainly refers to shutting out all external influences.
“I want people who come and see me live to be able to be wholly absorbed in the music. On stage, I am there exclusively for my audience, which I expect more than ever before from them as well. I would prefer everyone to turn off or leave home their mobile phones. Often people film of take photographs. That adds yet another filter to your experiences. What is the value of a memory if you necessarily have to share it. As if it has not happened otherwise. It would be good if you could be able to set yourself free from this for a couple of hours, to just have a dialogue with yourself or me. Just enjoy yourself. The World Can Wait.
2017, a golden year
Last year was a fine advance to 2018 for Waylon. His tour sold out within a day and he was The Voice of Holland’s winning coach, as well as winner of It takes 2. He also performed three sold-out Ahoy Shows with Radio Veronica’s Top 1000 of all times.
“On tour you are family. The world waits anyway because everything happens on the road to somewhere and wherever you arrive, is your home.”
