Zoals afgelopen seizoen al te zien was in Groningen met ‘Squidboy’, weet performer Trygve Wakenshaw elke zaal – van Nieuw-Zeeland tot het Edinburgh Festival Fringe en alles daar tussenin – op zijn kop te zetten met zijn grenzeloos fantasierijke fysieke komedie en absurdistische slapstick. Tommy Cooper meets Monthy Python en Kamagurka meets Jim Carrey. ‘Kraken’ bestaat opnieuw uit een serie hilarische scènes, waarin Wakenshaw als geen ander het publiek bij de voorstelling betrekt. Wees dus niet verbaasd als hij u zo ver krijgt om uw buurman of -vrouw op het voorhoofd te kussen als pleister op de wonde voor een pijnlijk gelande, imaginaire dartpijl.
In ‘Kraken’ is Wakenshaw op zijn best en de Engelstalige voorstelling was afgelopen zomer dan ook niet voor niets drie weken lang uitverkocht op het fameuze theaterfestival in Edinburgh: “‘Kraken’ is crackers” (Herald Sun ****) en “Beautiful oddness” (The Scotsman ****).

As he showed during the previous theatre season in Groningen with ‘Squidboy’, performer Trygve Wakenshaw knows how to throw a party – from New Zealand to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and everything in between – with his infinite, imaginative, physical comedy and absurd slapstick. Tommy Cooper meets Monthy Python and Kamagurka meets Jim Carrey. ‘Kraken’ again consists of a series of hilarious scenes in which Wakenshaw involves the audience like no other. Do not be surprised if he convinces you to kiss your neighbour’s forehead as salve to a wound caused by a painfully landed, imaginary dart.
‘Kraken’ shows Wakenshaw at his best and the English-spoken performance was not sold out for three weeks last summer on the famous theatre festival in Edinburgh for nothing.
