The Elvis Concert
Dit jaar is het alweer 70 jaar geleden dat een jonge Elvis Presley zijn eerste singletje That’s All Right Mama opnam in de Sun Studio in Memphis. En dat hij nog altijd mateloos populair is, staat buiten kijf. Dat blijkt ook uit de populariteit van The Elvis Concert. Met leadzanger Dwight Icenhower, die als niemand anders de looks, de stem en het charisma van Elvis personificeert. Icenhower wordt gezien als ’s werelds beste Elvis Tribute Artist en heeft deze titel maar liefst 4 keer gewonnen.
Dat deze show bijzonder is, blijkt wel uit het feit dat verschillende originele muzikanten en vrienden van Elvis eraan meedoen. Koorzanger Jim Murray werkte tussen 1966 en 1972 samen met Elvis en is te horen op veel opnames uit die periode. Jim neemt ook zijn vrouw Brenda Murray Nielsen mee, die Elvis in 1960 ontmoette en bevriend met hem bleef tot zijn dood. Tijdens en na de show zal ze mooie verhalen over deze vriendschap delen. Op drums speelt Bob Lanning, die je kunt horen op Elvis hits als The Wonder Of You en Polk Salad Annie.
The Elvis concert is een viering van de muziek van Elvis Presley, alle hits maar ook de mooie gospels en leuke B-kantjes komen aan bod. Met Dwight Icenhower aan het roer en de originele muzikanten er naast is de illusie compleet: This is as close as it gets.
