Nederlands Blazers Ensemble
The unknown Chaplin
Inleiding
The Unknown Chaplin
Bart Schneemann, Nederlands Blazers Emsemble’s artistic leader, had been dreaming about a project involving films of Charlie Chaplin, who he considers the Johan Cruijff of the silent film. With The Unknown Chaplin he has suited the action to the word. He chose four of the genius’s not particularly well-known, yet hilariously mad and melancholic films. Films dating from before 1918 that, as was usual then, had to do without music. That is why the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble asked four composers to write a score that fit the films perfectly: Reza Namavar, Micha Hamel, Oene van Geel and Julian Schneemann. In contrast to these newly composed soundtracks, you will also hear the most subdued piece Philip Glass wrote for the film: Mishima, a Life in Four Chapters. Naturally Chaplin’s famous closing speech from The Great Dictator, a plea for freedom and democracy, will feature as well.
Price includes one drink (in break or afterwards) and wardrobe.
