Jake La Botz
De uit Chicago afkomstige Jake La Botz leerde de blues spelen van de laatste bluesmannen van voor de oorlog. Daarna trok met hij met zijn gitaar door de V.S. totdat hij uiteindelijk in Hollywood belandde, waar een onwaarschijnlijke acteercarrière begon. Hij speelde in meer dan twintig films waaronder True Detective, Rambo en On the Road. In zijn meest recente film, D.O.A., speelt medemuzikant John Doe van de band X de hoofdrol.
Op dertigjarige leeftijd overwon La Botz zijn heroïneverslaving en begon hij zich te verdiepen in Boeddhistische meditatie, waarbij hij later ook als leraar actief werd. Tegelijkertijd liet hij zijn bluesy gitaarkunsten zien bij een zwarte Baptistenkerk in South Central L.A. Daar werd hij geïnspireerd door gospelmuziek. Sindsdien speelt La Botz zijn unieke stijl van gospel-noir americana.
La Botz is naast acteur en muzikant ook een begaafd schrijver. Binnenkort verschijnt zijn boek met memoires dat hij in samenwerking met striptekenaar Nic Breutzman heeft gemaakt. Korte fictie van La Botz is te vinden in verschillende literaire tijdschriften. Momenteel werkt hij aan een boek met korte verhalen en een novelle. In zijn nieuwste album Hair On Fire brengt Jake een krachtige boodschap over het leven: het is kort en kostbaar, dus de sleutel tot het begrijpen van de essentie ervan is om er nu actief iets van te maken.
Met zijn veelzijdigheid als artiest laat Jake zien dat hij moeiteloos tussen verschillende genres kan bewegen. Chicago native Jake La Botz learned to play the blues from the last pre-war bluesmen. He then toured the U.S. with his guitar until he finally landed in Hollywood, where an unlikely acting career began. He starred in more than 20 films including True Detective, Rambo and On the Road. In his most recent film, D.O.A., fellow musician John Doe of the band X plays the lead role.
At the age of 30, La Botz overcame his heroin addiction and began studying Buddhist meditation, later becoming an active teacher. At the same time, he showed off his bluesy guitar skills at a black Baptist church in South Central L.A. There he was inspired by gospel music. Since then, La Botz has been playing his unique style of gospel-noir Americana.
In addition to being an actor and musician, La Botz is also a gifted writer. His book of memoirs, which he created in collaboration with cartoonist Nic Breutzman, will be published soon. Short fiction by La Botz can be found in various literary magazines. He is currently working on a book of short stories and a novella. In his latest album Hair On Fire, Jake delivers a powerful message about life: it is short and precious, so the key to understanding its essence is to actively make something of it now.
With his versatility as an artist, Jake shows that he can move effortlessly between different genres.
