Het Nederlandse psychedelische wonderkind komt naar het noorden! Eind vorig jaar bracht multi-instrumentalist Jacco Gardner zijn derde album uit en nu komt hij terug met een gelijknamige tour: Somnium. Het nieuwe album is instrumentaal maar heeft net zo’n psychedelische sound als de voorgaande albums. Net als zijn vorige bezoek staat Jacco op een locatie die even uniek is als zijn muziek: DOT Groningen.
Jacco Gardner ’s Somnium in DOT is een unieke muzikale trip door het universum. Jacco’s laatste album ‘Somnium’ is speciaal gecomponeerd voor vertoning in een planetarium. In een co-productie met DOTliveplanetarium is een unieke visuele show gecomponeerd, die op ESNS2019 in première is gegaan. De show wordt op 25 mei vertoond als decor voor de live muziek van het album Somnium, met full dome surround sound en full dome visuals.
Jacco Gardner
Jacco Gardner is een Nederlandse multi-instrumentalist. Zijn muziek typeert zich door de psychedelische geluiden van de jaren 60. Na zijn debuutalbum Cabinet of Curiosities kreeg Gardner internationale bekendheid en trad hij op in Spanje, het Verenigd Koninkrijk en in Nederland. Hier was hij onder andere te zien op Eurosonic Noorderslag en was hij te gast in De Wereld Draait Door en bij Vrijdagmiddag Live. Na een Amerikaanse tour en een tweede album bleef het even stil rondom Gardner. Geïnspireerd door het gelijknamige boek bracht hij zijn nieuwste album uit: Somnium.
Somnium
Geïnspireerd door het boek van de Duitse astronoom Johannes Keppler uit 1608, door velen beschouwd als het eerste sciencefictionverhaal, is het een volledig instrumentale synthesizertrip geworden die bij voorkeur integraal geconsumeerd dient te worden. Verwacht een ontdekkingsreis binnen, buiten en tussen verschillende realiteiten bij deze unieke ‘in the round’ show op locatie bij DOT Groningen. “Return to the sphinx through the waves of illusion. Follow the wanderer crossing the gate. Shades are calling for a dance of diffusion. Travel the world that the watcher creates.” luidt de tekst in de binnenhoes van Gardner’s album. Een uitspraak verhuld in mysterie en tweevoud, dat een gevoel van verandering en ontdekking oproept, net als Jacco’s muziek. Met zijn instrumentale synthesizer-arrangementen neemt hij je mee op een reis door de muzikale kosmos.
Kosmische zoektocht
Door middel van analoge synthesizers en dansende baslijnen bouwt Jacco een diepe atmosfeer. Gardner’s geluid is schatplichtig aan de oude ontdekkingsreizigers van het heelal uit de 60’s, maar heeft zijn eigen unieke, dromerige ambiance. Tijdens Eurosonic Noorderslag bewees hij al dat DOT Groningen zich als locatie perfect leent voor zijn muziek.

The Dutch psychedelia prodigy is heading north. Multi-instrumentalist Jacco Gardner released his third album at the end of last year and is now returning with an eponymous tour: Somnium. The new album is instrumental but has a psychedelic sound to it, as do his previous albums. This concert’s location is as unique as Gardner’s music: the DOT Dome Cinema in Groningen.
Jacco Gardner
Jacco Gardner is a Dutch multi-instrumentalist. His music is characterised by the psychedelic sounds of the ‘60s. Following his debut album Cabinet of Curiosities, Gardner gained international fame and played in Spain, the United Kingdom and the Netherlands. Here, he for example performed at Eurosonic Noorderslag and in several television and radio programmes. After an American tour and a second album, silence fell around Gardner. Inspired by the eponymous book, he released his newest album: Somnium.

With his instrumental synthesizer arrangements he takes you on a journey through the musical cosmos.
Cosmic quest
With analogue synthesizers and dancing bass lines, Jacco builds a deep atmosphere. Gardner’s sound is inspired by the ‘60s’ explorers of the universe, but has its own unique, dreamy ambiance. He has already proven that DOT Groningen is a perfect location for his music during Eurosonic Noorderslag.
Inspired by the 1608 book by the German astronomer Johannes Keppler, which many consider to be the first science fiction story, Somnium has become an entirely instrumental synthesizer trip that is preferably consumed in its entirety. Expect a voyage of discovery inside, outside, and between different realities during this unique ‘in the round’ show at the DOT Dome Cinema.
