Ze wordt nu al de redding van de Engelse soul genoemd. Door haar stemgeluid in combinatie met funky grooves, up-tempo swingers en diepe ballads zou je gemakkelijk kunnen denken dat de muziek uit een obscure vinyl-collectie uit de jaren 70 komt. We hebben het over de Britse zangeres Hannah Williams. Donderdag 18 april staat deze deep soul’s funkiest new diva in het Der Aa-Theater, samen met een select gezelschap van de beste muzikanten die de Britse soul momenteel te bieden heeft – The Affirmations!
Hannah ‘Hurricane’ Williams
Laat je niet misleiden door haar onschuldige verschijning: Hannah ‘Hurricane’ Williams blaast je meteen weg met haar prachtige stem en overweldigende teksten. Het stemgeluid van Hannah Williams zit ergens tussen Joss Stone, Dusty Springfield en Janis Joplin in. Een stem met erg veel soul, die zowel de uptempo swingers als de diepe soul ballads aan kan.
Late Nights & Heartbreak
Hannah debuteerde in 2012 met haar solo album Hill Of Feathers en heeft in november 2016 het album Late Nights & Heartbreak uitgebracht samen met haar band The Affirmations. Dit album werd zeer positief ontvangen. ‘’Hannah klinkt hier lekker rauw en de band speelt een zeer solide, verslavende groove.’’ (Blues Magazine)

Ook Jay-Z was onder de indruk van dit album, met name door het gelijknamige nummer Late Nights & Heartbreak. Hij belde Hannah persoonlijk op om te vragen of hij de titeltrack van het album mocht gebruiken voor zijn eigen titelsong van het gelijknamige album 4:44. Producer No I.D. liet het nummer van Williams horen aan Jay en hij wist meteen wat hem te doen stond: “4:44′ it’s the crux of the album, I woke up, literally, at 4:44 in the morning to write this song… It’s the title track because it’s such a powerful song, and I just believe one of the best songs I’ve ever written”.
Donderdag 18 april staat Hannah Williams samen met The Affirmations in het Der Aa-Theater. Een full-soul experience zal plaatsvinden!

We are talking about British singer Hannah Williams. On Thursday 18 April this deep soul’s funkiest new diva will be performing in De Oosterpoort together with a select company of the best musicians British soul currently has to offer – The Affirmations!
Hannah ‘Hurricane’ Williams
Do not be misled by her innocent appearance: Hannah ‘Hurricane’ Williams immediately blows you away with her wonderful voice and overwhelming lyrics. Hannah Williams’ voice is somewhere between Joss Stone’s, Dusty Springfield’s, and Janis Joplin’s: a soulful voice that can handle the up-tempo swingers as well as the deep soul ballads.
Late Nights & Heartbreak
Hannah made her debut in 2012 with her solo album Hill Of Feathers and released the album Late Night & Heartbreak together with her band The Affirmations in November 2016. Jay-Z was impressed by the album too, particularly by the eponymous song Late Nights & Heartbreak. He personally called Hannah to ask if he could use the album’s title track for the eponymous title song of his album 4:44.
