Guy Davis
Hoewel de veelzijdige bluesman Guy Davis geboren en getogen is in New York, maakt hij geen grotestadsblues. Akoestische gitaar, mondharmonica, banjo en wasbord; meer heeft hij niet nodig. Op dit moment kun je hem beschrijven als dé internationale ambassadeur van akoestische blues. Dinsdag 26 november staat Davis in het Der Aa-Theater. Verwacht een kenmerkende finger-picking stijl, ondersteund door een warm blues-geluid.
Inspiratie
Davis groeide op in New York City, maar ontwikkelde zijn passie voor de blues dankzij de verhalen van zijn grootouders, afkomstig uit het diepe zuiden van de VS; het platteland waar de blues ooit begonnen is. Die invloed is nog steeds aanwezig in de muzikale loopbaan van Davis. Hij verlaat de gebaande paden graag, maar miskent tradities nooit.

Groots repertoire
Zoals het een bluesman betaamt, heeft hij een lange adem: in 2018 verscheen Sonny & Brownie’s Last Train, zijn veertiende album alweer! Op het album staan een aantal fraaie traditionals, zoals Take This Hammer, Baby Please Don’t Go To New Orleans en Midnight Special. En dat alles in onvervalste Guy Davis-stijl.
Although the versatile bluesman Guy Davis was born and raised in New York, he does not make large-city blues. Acoustic guitar, harmonica, banjo and washboard; that is all he needs. At the moment, he can be described as the international ambassador of acoustic blues. On Tuesday 26 November Davis will play in the Der Aa-Theater. Inspiration
Davis grew up in New York City, but developed his passion for blues through the stories of his grandparents, who were from the deep south of the US; the countryside blues originates from. That influence still is present in Davis’s musical career. He gladly leaves the beaten track, yet never discards traditions.
