In 2017 moest Damien Jurado om persoonlijke redenen zijn tour getiteld An Acoustic Journey Through Maraqopa helaas afzeggen. In maart komt hij voor de herkansing, in het kader van TakeRoot presents, naar de Lutherse Kerk!

De Amerikaanse singer-songwriter Damien Jurado bevestigt al ruim 15 jaar zijn faam. De uit Seattle afkomstige muzikant bracht al vele albums van hoge kwaliteit uit met even fraaie als droefgeestige nummers. Zijn rauwe ‘self-made’ persoonlijkheid zit diep in de muziek geworteld en hij past dan ook moeiteloos thuis in het rijtje Bill Callahan, Will Oldham en Jason Molina.
Visions Of Us On The Land
In maart 2016 bracht hij alweer zijn vijftiende album Visions Of Us On The Land uit. Het was nooit de bedoeling van Jurado om een hele albumtrilogie te wijden aan Maraqopa, een vanuit zijn onderbewustzijn ontstaan, fictief land. Een kort beeld van die plaats in tien liedjes op het gelijknamige album uit 2012, dat zou het zijn. Maar de ingrijpende droom die hij hierover had, ging met Jurado’s verstand aan de haal. Zodanig dat hij enkele jaren terug zelfmoord probeerde te plegen. Uiteindelijk kon de songwriter uit Seattle deze zwarte periode gelukkig omzetten in blakende creativiteit. En dus is Visions Of Us On The Land na voorganger Brothers And Sisters Of The Eternal Son en Maroqopa het ronduit schitterende slotstuk van de Maraqopa-trilogie. Althans, zoals Jurado er nú tegenaan kijkt, is dit het einde van het verhaal.
The Horizon Just Laughed
Op 6 maart heeft Damien Jurado zijn nieuwe album aangekondigd: “The Horizon Just Laughed”. De releasedatum is op 4 mei. Tijdens deze aankondiging is de eerste single en video uitgekomen. Het nummer “Over Rainbows And Rainier” is vanaf nu te beluisteren.

Visions Of Us On The Land is een tijdloos en prikkelend album met stevige wortels in Noord-Amerika, een geestverruimende plaat die echo’s uit de jaren zestig en zeventig laat horen.

And that is how Visions Of Us On The Land, succeeding Brothers And Sisters Of The Eternal Son and Maroqopa, is the splendid concluding piece to the Maraqopa trilogy. This is, as Jurado sees it now, the end of this story.
