Met een voet in het heden en een voet in het verleden omarmt Cordovas de sounds van klassieke americana en country-rock. Als special guest nemen ze de getalenteerde singer-songwriter Bella White mee. Dit Takeroot presents dubbelconcert staat garant voor een avond vol americana, roots en folk van de bovenste plank.

Cordovas’ laatste album, Destiny Hotel, is een werk vol wilde poëzie en verlatenheid, gezongen over een prachtige combinatie van folk en country met groovy rock’n’roll. Deze belangrijke creatieve mijlpaal voor de uit Tennessee afkomstige band – bestaande uit vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Joe Firstman, toetsenist Sevans Henderson, gitarist/vocalist Lucca Soria en vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Toby Weaver – belichaamt de ongestuurde energie van hun liveshows beter dan ooit, terwijl het tegelijkertijd hun songwriting naar een ongekend nieuw niveau van verfijning tilt. Het resultaat is een verzameling liedjes vol passie en energie.
Hoewel Destiny Hotel vol staat met openbaringen over angst en ego en zelfbevrijding, deelt Cordovas deze inzichten zonder belerend over te komen. Sterker nog, het album straalt van opgetogenheid. Elk moment is een echo van de buitengewoon nauwe band die de heren hebben. Wanneer ze niet de wereld over touren of festivalpodia bestijgen, besteden de bandleden veel tijd op hun gemeenschappelijke boerderij vlak buiten Nashville. “Ik kan me niet voorstellen dat er veel bands zijn die meer repeteren dan wij” zegt Firstman, wiens vrouw en jonge kind ook op deze boerderij wonen. “We zijn hier allemaal samen in deze prachtige ruimte, en we zorgen ervoor dat we dit nooit zomaar voor lief nemen.”

De 22-jarige singer-songwriter Bella White heeft een uniek muzikaal talent: een fijngevoelige mix van country en folk die frisse perspectieven combineert met bluegrass tradities, ondanks het feit dat ze groot is geworden in het Canadese Calgary. Haar tweede album, Among Other Things (geproduceerd door Jonathan Wilson), ontvouwt zich met een prachtige gelaagdheid en bevat elementen van country, folk, indie en klassieke rock.
White, die al bijna haar hele leven liedjes schrijft, schreef alle nummers op Among Other Things helemaal in haar eentje. Dit deed ze vooral om de intimiteit van de zelfreflectie in haar muziek te waarborgen. Die toewijding aan het onthullen van haar persoonlijke waarheid bezorgde White veel duidelijkheid over haar visie als artiest. “Toen ik mijn eerste album schreef had ik geen duidelijke koers, ik hield gewoon van deze muziekstijl en dat wou ik graag laten zien” vertelde ze. “Maar bij dit nieuwe album voelde ik een veel sterker begrip voor wat ik wou zeggen en hoe ik het wou brengen.”.

The latest full-length from Cordovas, Destiny Hotel is a work of wild poetry and wide-eyed abandon, set to a glorious collision of folk and country and groove-heavy rock-and-roll. In a major creative milestone for the Tennessee-based band—vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Joe Firstman, keyboardist Sevans Henderson, guitarist/vocalist Lucca Soria and vocalist/multi-instrumentalist Toby Weaver—the album harnesses the freewheeling energy of their live show more fully than ever, all while lifting their songwriting to a whole new level of sophistication. The result is a batch of songs that ruminate and rhapsodize with equal intensity, inviting endless celebration on the way to transcendence.
But while Destiny Hotel unfolds in untold revelations on fear and ego and self-liberation, Cordovas offer up that insight without ever slipping into didacticism. In fact, much of the album radiates utter elation, each moment echoing Cordovas’ band-of-brothers kinship and extraordinary closeness: when they’re not touring the world, taking the stage at leading festivals like Stagecoach, Newport Folk and Pickathon, or hosting their own Tropic of Cancer Concert Series down in Todos Santos, Cordovas spend much of their time practicing in the barn at their communal farm home just outside Nashville. “I can’t imagine that many bands rehearse more than we do,” says Firstman, whose wife and young child also live on the farm. “We’re all here together in this wonderful space, and we’re pretty good about never taking it for granted.”

22-year-old singer / songwriter Bella White has a one-of-a-kind musical talent: a finespun breed of country/folk both fresh in perspective and wholly steeped in bluegrass tradition, despite her upbringing in the Canadian city of Calgary. Her sophomore album, Among Other Things (Produced by Jonathan Wilson) unfolds with gorgeously textured layers encompassing elements of country, folk, indie, and classic rock.
A near-lifelong songwriter who names Joni Mitchell and John Prine among her earliest influences, White wrote all of the songs on Among Other Things entirely on her own, mainly for the sake of preserving the intimacy of each track’s incisive introspection. And in that devotion to excavating her personal truth, White ultimately made her way to a greater clarity on her overall vision as an artist. “When I made my first album, I didn’t have much direction beyond loving that style of music and wanting to create something that showed that,” she says. “But with the new record, I felt a much stronger understanding of what I wanted to say and how I wanted to say it. It made me feel a lot more empowered in the whole process, and it brought me so much joy to see my songs become their own little universes. I hope when people hear this music, it leaves them with that same feeling of empowerment—like they’re completely free to do their own thing.”
